I have to go with Mercer. It's not just their offense that is scoring right now. The last 3 or 4 games they have gotten at least 1 touchdown from the defense and 1 from the special teams. I don't see a blow out though, I'm looking for 28-14 Titans.

I will go with the Titans in this one. I once thought Western may challenge the Titans in the 3rd round, but Larue took care of them.

I agree. Mercer's defense will have to answer the bell in this game and I think they have the personnel to take away Larue's weapons.

Mercer 34

Larue 28

Thurman is too much for any D in the state to handle, but Mercer is just a better team.

Mercer - 42

Larue -- 14

AND FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! We will get to see Mercer match-up with a legit Top 10 2A team with some offensive weapons.

This is particularly an interesting matchup for me as a Belfry fan because we get to see how good the Mercer D plays against a quality running game, moreso, a very good fullback.

The key to this game for Larue IMO is this....

1. Limit Big Plays- Just like the Russell's and Belfry's of the past three years it is impossible to completely shut down Mercer... and they will inevitably get at least 2-3 big plays. The key is to make sure that it is only 2-3 big plays and nothing more. If larue forces drives instead of quick scores it will work very favorably for them cause...

2. Tick, Tock- Larue's best defense will be their offense. They have got to chew clock and limit the ammount of posessions Mercer gets.

3. Penalties- Larue cannot commit tactical penalties (offsides, false starts, holding).. they need to avoid long yardage situations as much as possbile and cannot bail out Mercer if they are able to contain them.

good post orisonspi, I agree Larue must keep Mercer offense off the field. I think Larue is a VERY good opponent for the Titans as they are similar in style to Russell and have the ability to pound the ball. Mercer defense will need to step up like they did against a very good Newport team when they held them 8 plays from the 5 yd. line. I realize I will be in the minority but I think this was the best newport team in the last 5 years. Anyway, if Larue can control the clock and limit silly mistakes this one goes down to the wire. I hope there is a huge crowd for both teams, and may the best team win!

Mercer Co. 35-0.

Actually Laure needs to force alot of 3 and out. Mercer is very good at chewing up the clock and keeping your offense off the field if they are forced into that situation.

I'm asking an honest question here. What did they get from Harrodsburg this year that is an improvement from last year's team?

I do know that Mercer came into their game at Russell last year at 10-1. Russell outgained them 364-222 on the ground and 436-306 total. They also outscored them 41-26. That was also with allowing 135 rushing to Griffith and 97 rushing to Walker. Mercer was REALLY good last year.

Not trying to comparing this years teams to last yeras, but I am actually just trying to find out what areas they have improved on this season with the merger.

Still have Griffith and Walker. Added incredible speed to go with them in Jackson and Ford. O-line and D-line are not as big, but are more athletic.

The biggest difference is DEFENSE. Mercer's D is fast, physical, and oppotunistic. Yielding only 80 rushing yards a game, and a passing D that has 25 interceptions.

Thanks! That was the kind of information I was looking for. Hope to see them soon.

Jackson, Ford speedsters were added, along with several very experienced & very talented players. As for Griffith, he RARELY if ever runs the ball.
