Belfry 35 Prestonsburg 10

Featured Replies

Not a fantastic showing by the Red Army, but certainly good enough.

Middlesboro comes to Belfry for the 3rd year in a row.

As expected. Great win now lets get ready for a very good Middlesboro team next week. Hopefully we can limit the turnovers against the Jackets. I believe I say this after every Belfry game.

Belfry recovers from a very slow start plagued with mental errors and fumbles to convincingly put away the Blackcats.

Corey Chapman was a man posessed tonight..although I found it odd that he had NO carries in the second half after rushing for over 100 yards in the first half as well as returning the half's opening kickoff 85 yards.

Dustin May ran well over 100 yards with 3 TD... Ivan Lee played impressively on both side sof the ball.

Belfry proved that when they execute effectively that they are nearly impossible to shut down. We have got to have 4 consistent quarters of limtied fumble, no dropped passes, and solid special teams play the rest of the way out.

CONGRADULATIONS PIRATES :dancingpa

Way to go Pirates!

Now lets get ready for next week!

It's not odd, it is illogical.

For the past two years Corey has had the highest YPC, a BIG indicator of a good high school back, of any guy on the team. Corey's a player. He is small in stature, isn't necessarily a power runner, but he has the desire to be great.

He needs the ball, he has earned the ball, and if the Pirates hope to make it back to the carpet he needs to get the ball more.

I think Chapman would have seen the ball more if Belfry hadn't had a 2 TD cushion in all of Belfry's 2nd half possessions. It's vintage Haywood to favor the FB in that case to minimize the chance of the turnover. And as good as the Pirate defense is...I think it's the right thing to do.

Well...We certainly had our chances. It was a good close ballgame until halftime.

The failed 4th and 1 in Pirate territory, when P-burg was driving to tie in the 2nd qtr., was a HUGE pivot point. And the TD on the 2nd half KO took a lot of wind out of the Blackcat's sails.

Pirates...Congratulations !! Go ahead and get #3 !!! :thumb:

We'll see you all again when this rivalry gets renewed in the future. There've been breaks in the series before, but history says it's NOT gonna stay that way.

Also... a very special "THANK YOU" to this group of Prestonsburg Seniors for helping to bring this program back toward where it belongs...you can take pride in that !!

Just a difference in philosophy, I suppose.

His works, and that's all that matters. Plus, Dustin ended up getting great yardage up the middle in the second half anyway.

I'd daresay Haywood teams have lost fewer games in turning conservative than many other coaches have lost in keeping things the same offensively.

But either way makes fans want to pull their hair if it doesn't work...
