What's the rule?

Here's the situation:

Team A is punting on 4th down. Team B blocks the punt and the ball bounces back towards the end zone they are going to. A player from Team A intentionally kicks the ball out of the back of the end zone to prevent a player from Team B from recovering it. The ball was kicked through the end zone on the 2 yard line.

What's the proper call?

First i want to say safety. But I think the proper call is illegal batting of the ball its a 15 yeard penalty from the spot of the infraction. Team B gets the ball 1sta nd 10.

The proper ruling is illegal kick by A for the kick while the ball was loose at the 2 yard line. Safety for the kicked ball exiting through the endzone. Team B has a choice to accept the two points or the illegal kicking foul. The foul for illegal kicking is 15 yards (or 1/2 the distance from inside the 30) from the previous spot, and replay 4th down.

I would have to agree w/Coach Buckett. If the ball was kicked in the playing field at the two, then the ball would be spotted at the 1, first and goal. I think if kicked in the endzone, then a safety?

I changed my mind after reading HEY REF, he has to be right being the ref?

Good guess I thinks that's probably correct. Not sure whether they would get the choice to decline and take the result of the play.I would rather have it 1 & 10 at the 1.

Is a drop kick cosidered illegal? The ball is "loose".

The Boone/Campbell game the punter kicked the ball while it was on the ground following a poor snap. The kick went forward to about the 20 and returned. A flag was thrown but then waived off and the down replayed.

2 answers to your questions:

1. A dropped kick is legal.

2. I checked with an official and as the play was described to me (bad snap, ball fumbled, ball on the ground , and THEN the punter kicked the ball from the ground) is illegal and if it occurred in the EZ would result in a safety.

Hey Ref wasn't guessing.

B (the defense/receiving team) has the option of taking the penalty: 15 yards (or half the distance to the goal) from the previous spot and replay 4th down.

or

Decline the penalty and take the result of the play: safety on A.
