Being a dinosaur, I am about (maybe the) the only person who really follows our program's involvement in the NKAC.

With that said it provides us with six quality/same talented opponents to anchor our schedule.

Many don't realize how hard it is to schedule other schools. It's gotten to be that if an opponent feels that the game is lose-lose for them, they won't play you, so those conference games serve a valuable purpose.

Probably pointing to winning a conference championship is not a big deal to the majority of DII and DI schools, but to the smaller D-III schools the NKAC conference has been a saving grace. It does give them a chance to compete for a viable championship, since it is highly unlikely that they will represent their region in the "A" or KHSAA post season tournament.

I really don't think anyone cares. Often you will find the smaller schools counting one of their games for two purposes. For example, Beechwood may play HC and say "Lets let this district game also count as our NKAC game too."

I've also never understood why some schools are in the All A but are also in Division II of the NKAC.

One thing I do like though is that it encourages coaches in the area to meet and set policies and it allows kids to receive far an extra award; but I don't think anyone cares about the standings.

This is somewhat of a "water seeks its own level" scenario in that some of the D-III eligible teams simply dominated when playing at that level. Brossart played in and won the Div-III title each year from 1991 through 1996. We then applied for, and were granted DivII status, joining NCC, Holy Cross, and St. Henry who were also eligible by enrollment for D-III, since then we have won the D-II title three times - 2005, 2007, and 2009 which was much more meaningful that the string of D-III titles.

D-III also requires home and home games. While this works great for the smaller schools, the "mid-major" small schools would often find themselves with a slate of mis-matches.

I have NO PROBLEM with the present structure of the NKAC. The better "small schools" have done the right thing and moved into Div-II and the D-IIIs are perfectly happy that we are gone, and have a very contentious battle among themselves for the conference title.

The NKAC has absolutely nothing to do with football.

I think it helps with scheduling and gives schools an opportunity to compete for a title in addition to the districts and regionals. No problem with it's current format
