All this means is DeSales will play Mayfield at Kroger field. Lol

At the end of the second quarter Desales had a great drive going about 80 yards, but on 3rd and goal from the 4, the Colts QB was hit and fumbled and CAL recovered. They methodically moved downfield helped by a couple excellent counter trey rushes for 20 yards each and stuffed in a statement TD just before half and it was all CAL at that point.

 

The teams traded a few punts to open the second half. Then on CALs second second half possession they threw a 45 yard go route and flipped the field. The then ran it in with superior blocking and it was 21-3 and you could feel the air in the Desales balloon state to leave the stadium.

The Colts never quit and added a late passing TD after the CAL DB fell down.

 

What I took away from the game: Both teams are really top notch for 2A squads. I know now why they are beating 6A teams.

 

For Desales, their top RB was hobbled coming into the game and that affected what the Colts wanted to do which was run more than pass. I was impressed with the QB Pfaadt, but his turnovers hurt the Colts. I don't blame him, but they did hurt. They have good athletes and a good line on both sides. Their kicking game is suspect other than kicking FGs. On kick offs the Centurians were starting near midfield most of the night. That puts the defense on their heels from the beginning. I was most impressed with the Colt D. The swarmed to the ball and we're ready to play Milton Wright (as much as you can be).

 

For the Centurians, they are a physically impressive team. Their OLine especially are outstanding. The QB was very smart and made good decisions. Their 2 running backs aren't lightning bolts but they are elusive and smart. They have effective dangerous receivers as well. Milton Wright didn't leave the field that I saw They didn't get him into the flow of the offense enough but maybe that was by design for this game. He is a difference maker on defense as if you throw near him you better be sure it's on the money. The Centurians must have had 3 unnecessary ruffness penalties and 4 holding penalties. I thought they were sloppy in that regard.

 

These 2 teams will meet again. I know they have flip-flopped a lot on wins, but Desales has to figure out how to more effectively run the ball on the stellar CAL D as I see CAL using Wright on offense more in the second game and if the Centurians clean up the penalties then how will Desales score? The top Colt RB will make a difference but how much? The Centurians will be hard to beat at home in November. Just my thoughts.

You nail it Purple88, very good report on this game.....they are huge on that O-line, D1 bodies. Hats off to CAL, they go all the way.

Purple88 your report is spot on. I was at the game and it looked like CAL was the better team tonight. They beat us at the line of scrimmage on most plays. Colts had a couple of chances but kept shooting themselves in the foot with mistakes, penalties & turnovers. The score could have been worse except for CAL's penalties. At least 4 personal foul penalties & lots of false starts & holding. They must have backed themselves up 30 or 40 yards on one series because of penalties. CAL looks like the team to beat in 2A, but of course you can never rule out Mayfield. They're always tough as nails.

Purple88, you should remember 33 from 3 yrs ago vs 7th grade Purples!! Was about 70% tonight.

LF I didn't till you mentioned that. He should be able to take a week off or 3 and get better with their upcoming schedule and be ready for the playoff run. Good luck.
