Watusi Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Have you ever lost your hunting land on short notice right before the season? I just found out yesterday we have lost the permission to the hunting land we have been hunting the past several years. It sucks, especially this close to the season (we aren't bow hunters). That farm belongs to a relative of a relative, and he decided to use it for another purpose, which is understandable. But it sucks. I kind of saw it coming, because there were hints of it last year. It was an informal agreement, and since nobody had said anything before now, we assumed there were no changes. Until yesterday. I'm long in the tooth in my hunting career, and can live with it, but my son, who is just turning 16 grew up hunting there and he is really bummed out. Not sure what we will do this season now, probably just wing it here in Pike Co. Oh well, if you have a similar story and would like to rant, I'm all ears. Misery loves company.
ThrillVille Cardinal51 Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 That really stinks, especially that you were told a day after the deadline for the quota hunts. As for your son, see if you can get him into bow hunting. That way he can pop over to the closest WMA. I’m hooked, and it gives you a lot more time in the stand.
Watusi Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 There is a million acres of land here in EKY to hunt, and we will be ok, but it still stings.
theguru Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 It is the nature of people and it does sting. Keep us posted on the new locations.
NKYknowitall Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 I’m very fortunate to be able to hunt where I do. If the day comes where I am no longer able to hunt that farm, idk what I’d do. Sucks to hear so close to gun season too. Hopefully you’re able to find something soon.
dd734 Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Lost mine this year as well. Been hunting there since the early 70's. It was a big surprise. It was a surprise to the owner as well, as he didn't have it for sale. He told me he was approached by someone out of the blue, that made him an offer he just couldn't refuse.
