what will be the biggest rivalry game this year?

Perry/Hazard (as in years past)

Lee/Powell (two good teams this year)

JBS/Hazard (New one forming)

Knott Central/Cordia (Always a hot topic)

Perry/JBS

Jackson City/Breathitt (another in county war)

What are you thoughts on the biggest and who will come out on top this year in those games????? Should be some great basketball in these games, can't wait to get started! 19 days and counting.

Buckhorn and Cordia seems to have a good rivalry going.

I also see that a possible rivalry between Buckhorn and Perry Central could be growing. Especially after the four point game last season. That was the first time the two Perry Co. schools had played in a few years.

I can't see Breathitt and Jackson City developing into a big rivalry. Just by shear numbers Breathitt is going to be far dominate over Jackson City in nearly every year. I was happy for the Tigers last year, it is always pleasing to see small schools have a great season and compete with the usual powers. But we must remember that until the last two years Jackson City hadn't been a factor in the region since 1982. It's just tough for small enrollment schools to be competitive in most years. I think Breathitt's rival is still Knott, or maybe Hazard, although they are in different districts. Also, now that Wolfe County is in the 55th, I think they could become a rival for Breathitt.

 

And Lee and Powell are not even close to having the rivalry of Lee and Owsley. Neighboring counties in the same district whose schools are a mere 11 miles apart. Lee dominated Owsley last year, but the Owls have had success against the Bobcats for much of the previous 25 years. So these two have a rivalry that's a natural. The games at each school is usually the largest gate reciept for the season.

Powell's natural rival is Estill. Two schools whose enrollments are similar and are 20 minutes apart.

OK. I just re-read the thread, and it asks about the biggest rivalry THIS year. My previous post was about 'traditional' rivalries.

This year, I agree, Lee and Powell will have a good rivalry.

The jbs/hazard one should be rly fun to watch.

I love Coach Hall at Jackson City, I just don't know if he has enough guns to compete with some of the elite 14th teams. If it comes down to strategy and game plans, his teams will be in every game this year. Lets just lace 'em up and let it go!

Are you kidding me jackson and breathitt in my oppinion will be the biggest game rivalry wise this year. Coach hall moving from breathitt to jackson and coach banks taking over. Some of the players dont get along at all and the competion going on over the students will add to the rivalry. To add a little spice to the fire Superintendent arch turner met with the players and coach banks from breathitt and said if they didnt beat jackson this year he would fire banks and cancel the rest of their season. Now thats going to make a great rivalry. Look for this game to be very exciting and look out for jackson city.

I would have to say Powell County vs. Estill County is a rivalry that has developed even more now because they are in the same district.

You're correct as far as last year and this year are concerned.

But as far as a traditional rivalry between these two schools, well, there actually hasn't been one. In most years they didn't even schedule one another, and didn't play unless they met in the district tournament.

I guess from Breathitt High's stand point":fight: win or go home:fight: " during the Jackson City games. This will be interesting to keep attention on.

PCC and Hazard will be a fun game to watch especially after Hazard put PCC out of the district last year.
