He wouldn’t have to transfer before this week but he can’t play a snap this week if he wants to transfer. He’s reached his four game max. If he takes a snap in another game for Bama, he loses the redshirt option. If he takes no more snaps, he can transfer whenever with the redshirt exemption.

It’s a conversation he would have to have with Saban. Jalen agrees to stick around as a back up plan, but in games like this let one of the other backup QBs take the reps so he can keep his eligibility. I think both parties win in that scenario.

Yeah but he never took a redshirt year because he started as a true freshmen so he would get 2 years of eligibility not 1.

Unless you can guarantee that any injury Lawrence sustains will keep him out the rest of the year I don’t see how it could be worth it to Bryant.

In theory Bryant could stick around and practice with the team but not step foot on the field in a game. Dabo made it clear in his press conference that Bryant had a role on the team still but he just wouldn’t be starting.

Sometimes that is the case, such as at Alabama. I just don't like the mindset in general of "I got benched here so I will just quit and go somewhere else." Especially in the middle of a season.

 

I do understand the counterargument that coaches get to go to another school to take another job but the player does not without having to sit out. I don't know what the right answer is.

It's his senior season 4 games into the year. If the coaches are making the move to a freshman, there's no going back.

Yeah Lawrence is just better. Competition is for the spring, summer, and camp. Clemson let it carryover into the season and decided Lawrence was their guy. There is no more competition. Nothing Bryant could do to earn the job back only way he was getting it back was an injury or poor play from Lawrence.
