swamprat Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Ian Book starts in place of Brandon Wimbush at QB and leads the Irish to the biggest point total in a road game in the Kelly era. Passing 25/34, 325 yards, 2 TDs, 0 Ints. He ran for 3 more TDs.
Parrott Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 After the 1st quarter, ND looked like an entirely different team, especially on offense. You feel bad for Wimbush, but it has to be Book at QB going forward, based on today's performance.
sportsfan41 Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Was there a reason Wimbush didn't start aside from ND wanting to give Book a shot?
swamprat Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 Was there a reason Wimbush didn't start aside from ND wanting to give Book a shot? Kelly decided the team needed a spark and felt Book would give them that spark.
sportsfan41 Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Kelly decided the team needed a spark and felt Book would give them that spark. I've only watched ND a little this year. Any chance they try to use Wimbush elsewhere on offense?
futurecoach Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Was there a reason Wimbush didn't start aside from ND wanting to give Book a shot? Its because Notre Dame wants to make the playoffs. They have no room for error, and currently their weak spot was qb. The defense is good, running game good. Qb play was not. When you watched the team with Wimbush at qb, they didn't look like a top 10 team. With Book they look like a top 10 team. Book won them some big games last year too, including the bowl game against LSU last year. Book should have been the starter to start the year. As for Wimbush in another spot. With him being a senior, I doubt there is time to move him. If he plays it will be for a special play here or there imo.
Parrott Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 They were too one-dimensional with Wimbush, even when they were blowing people out last year. I just don't think they trusted him in the passing game last year, and they were hoping this year would be better in that regard...but it wasn't. To that point, the play calling today, once they got a good lead, was way, way more aggressive than it had been with Wimbush. They were trying to build a lead, instead of just trying to protect it.
swamprat Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 Could be interesting considering Wimbush did not play today at all. Not even in mop-up duty.
futurecoach Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Could be interesting considering Wimbush did not play today at all. Not even in mop-up duty. What you mean could be interesting? Like in what effect? The better qb is now playing.
Irish Cat Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Could be interesting considering Wimbush did not play today at all. Not even in mop-up duty. I wouldn't have played him in mop up duty either. The game was decided, you know what he can do, no sense in risking him getting hurt at that point of the game. If something would happen to Book he is the only other QB they have with any experience.
swamprat Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 What you mean could be interesting? Like in what effect? The better qb is now playing. Interesting in that my understanding is Wimbush was upset with the decision. The announcers mentioned it (before I turned the sound down). With the transfer rules being what they are, now, if he gets relegated to clipboard holder, and Jurkovec gets all the mop up duty ... well, it could get interesting. To me anyway.
