Let me play devil's advocate for a minute.

 

Of course none of these polls/ranking systems can replace the faithful of BGP. We go to games, have eyes and ears all over the state, are associated with teams in pretty well all capacities, etc., etc.

 

My argument for ratings such as Calpreps and Litkenhous is that I'm extremely impressed that they do as well as they do. Are they perfect? Of course not.

 

All I'm saying is that for random numbers of several different categories to be crunched together to get what they get is really remarkable. They only have access to what is put in when we all well know that there are many, many variables that go into winning a high school football game.

 

I just enjoy it for what it is. It's a fun novelty type item to mess around with. It's not meant to replace any of us.

It’s all math, they care not what the jersey says, as they get more data through the season they improve. They are not perfect because they average all the performances together, and teams can perform better or worse than their average. Running clock games sometimes hurt because a team doesn’t win by as much as rating says they should. ST. X will have to beat Fairdale by 70 to keep from rating being hurt in this game. Past opponents doing well or bad affect your rating as well. Right or wrong they are always interesting to look at.

I think the Lit ratings are pretty close toward the end of the regular season. The sample size is too small this early.
