Charlie Weis on 60 Minutes...

60 Minutes used to be an important show, but has gone downhill in recent years.

It has hit rock bottom when a college coach using bathroom language is the main story...

Get over it, what collge coach doesn't curse, in any sport? The greatest man that I know, besides my dad, was my college coach. Even he let a few GD's out.

Like it or love it, these shows survive on ratings.

And it's football season. If you are doing a football story. What story would get a bigger rating than Notre Dame.

Notre Dame is probably the most watched program nationwide, which is how they justify being on NBC 10 of 11 games a year. They draw ratings, every week, good or bad.

Even if you hate ND you will probably watch this program so you could talk bad about ND, if you like, ND, like I do, you're watching this horrible story about BP now. Either way, you're watching.

Thanks for helping me make my point. 60 minutes used to be an important program, now it's another tabloid. Just because people watch something doesn't mean it is good. In fact, 95% of the time, if a lot of people are watching something, it is totally worthless...

I don't remember anything this bad. Give me some examples.

Are you watching?

If a show only has "important" pieces, it won't be on long.

I've watched 60 Minutes for almost 30 years. They consistently have athletes and/or entertainers on their show. Every segment cannot be an interview with a head of state or an undercover investigation.

I agree, people don't want to waste any time watching important stuff. The dumbing down of American continues at an amazing pace. As for the segment, it was okay, the cursing was only a very small part of the piece. Still, this should be ESPN stuff, not 60 Minutes. But it doesn't bother me, because I watch 60 Minutes maybe once in a blue moon...

Also just learned that there is a Charleston in WV and SC.:dancingpa

Not another person on here telling everyone how dumb they are becoming. We have enough of those already.

I find the majority of people on here are highly intelligent, mostly educated people who happen to love, played or play and follow sports.

In other words, my kind of people.

I was talking about advertising a piece about a college coach cursing...

60 Minutes isn't worth watching and hasn't been for quite awhile...

The TV earned the nickname "idiot box" back when TV was much better than today...

I said there is a dumbing down of America going on. I think this is pretty much universally accepted. If it struck a chord with you, sorry. That wasn't my intention.

So should the local news not cover sports related stories either? Is that too playing a part in dumbing down America? Maybe ESPN should be the absolute only channel to ever do a sports related story... That'd certainly help.

If I want to watch what you believe 60 Minutes should be, C-Span's a good watch.
