Injured Reserve

 

Injured Reserve, will allow one player to be placed on Injured Reserve (IR) if they are hurt and are out for the year. IR does not start until after the first game of the season. If a player is placed on IR then they have to sit out the rest of the year and cannot return to the lineup until the following season.

 

Can I go ahead and put Garoppolo on there even though he's not officially shut down as of yet? I'm on a time clock as I have Alex Smith on bye this week and need to make a move.

I'd think that you could put anyone on it that you want to. Just if you put them on it, you can't bring them back off this year. So if you put him on the IR and it's not as serious as they think, you lose him for the year.

There are teams who have used the IR function in a way that is not in keeping with the rule as written. I am not calling out anyone in particular, but I think the commissioner may want to review the transactions and/or talk with the owners who are not using the rule correctly. Thanks
