Wymt Mountain Top 10?

Featured Replies

Bell County is not as good this year as they have been in the last 8 or 9 years.

This is a down year for Bell County.

????????

Bell is 6-2, and should finish 8-2. Their only 2 losses is to Rockastle and Henry Clay. Bell has played very well this season except for a 2 game stretch against Corbin and Leslie County.

Most of the difficulties can be credited to having a completely new offense that Bell is getting better and better with.

I'm not convinced that mountain football is down. Could it be that there are more good or respectable teams than usual? Maybe mountain football is catching up with the rest of the state (4A aside...too much Lexington and Louisville).

That might just be it.

There are more decent teams this year and less really good teams.

This comparison is always a stretch. In the whole of the season Bell has played well. According to Coach Hilton on his radio show last week, considers Leslie to be the worst game played by Bobcats all year (in rain and mud) and Corbin would be a close second. Bell played well against Henry Clay (one of top 4-A teams in KY- 9-0) and if Bobcats had made that controversial first down (poor spot and no measurement!) they run out the clock and maybe score one more time. Clay had to come from behind to win with only 4 minutes in game. That game better defines the true Bobcats. They have not been as consistent as they could be, but are young and learning. The way they held in there and nearly won the Rockcastle game at end shows how they have matured. If they keep up the pace, then they should win the next three games and meet Rockcastle again. They must take each game serious and climb each mountain one at a time. Coach Hilton will have them ready for the playoffs.

Of course he would consider the Corbin and Leslie games their worst games. They played a very good 4A team close (shouldn't have) and lost to Rockcastle in a game they should have lost. I thought both teams played bad at Corbin, but maybe that could be attributed to the defense played by both teams. Can't blame rain and mud for a poor game.......both teams played in it.

If Knox Central is the #10 team in the mountains, the mountains are week this year. I would think several teams not ranked would beat KC this year including one in the same county....

Nothing to be concerned about. KC finishes the season with Bell followed by Rock. If they lose, they'll drop out. If they win, they deserve to be there.

I agree with what you are saying about laming mud and rain on the game. But Bell had a poor game vs. Corbin. We fumbled the ball on the goal line and the defender missed an assignment and gave up a long TD pass. Now, Corbin deserves credit for making plays, but its poor play by Bell.

Also, Bell outplayed Henry Clay, but made some stupid turnovers in that one. Why should we have not played Henry Clay tough? Also, while our rushing defense was bad we threw all over Rockastle? Why should we have not won that game? You make no sense to me.

If you look, the comment was that the game played was bad. Do conditions contribute to a bad game? Both teams play in same conditions....BUT...with one being home team....advantage....running-based verses passing offense....advantage.....no kicking game verses strong kicking game.., etc. The elements definitely have an effect on the game when they are thrown in. Unless both teams are mirrored images like Rock and Bell used to be and line up with smash-mouth style football...someone is going to be at disadvantage in such games. Bell should have blown out Leslie....but poor play regardless of the weather was the factor.

Honestly i hope they win both. Is it possible to lose both and still be in the playoffs?

I didn't say Bell had a good game.....I said both teams played poor I believe. We stopped Bell late in the 4th and got the ball back with momentum on our side and pretty much took a knee with the 2nd and 3rd down plays we ran.

Henry Clay is at least a 3 TD favorite over you guys. Bell might have played over their heads, If you guys played HC again I would think it would be a blowout in HC favor.

Rock is just the better, bigger, more experienced team this year.

Bell is a good football team this year, don't get me wrong......but they are not the usual Bell. It is hard to admit or hard to see that ones team is down.......I (and others) believe Bell is down this year.

But you did agree with me.....

I will agree except for the blowout. I would say Bell is about 2 tds better than Leslie.

1st off, before Corbin took a knee Bell had a big sack on 1st down and it cut down what Corbin could do.

2nd off, you can say what you want, but Bell deserves credit as being a team that can play with Henry Clay and almost beat Henry Clay.

3rd off, one thing Bell showed they can move the football well on Rock, and even though they are more experienced and bigger, Bell is capable of beating them, and it could very well happen.

The 2 things that stand out about Bell County's season is that in every big game-Whitley Co, Henry Clay, Corbin, and Rockastle, is that Bell has had costly turnovers at really bad times (not that there is a good time to have one). The other thing is Bell has been inconsistent. There are periods when the team lacks focus and drive it seems.

If Bell puts it together I think the sky is the limit.

Weather was not bad when Bell played at Corbin, a little chilly but I was at the game in shorts, a t-shirt, and flip-flops.

Its surprising not to see South Laurel in there this year. I thought this would be one of there best years. Those boys have been through alot this year but they've never gave up , good job guys!
