Sheldon Clark 35 Belfry 29 (OT)

The Scribe doesn't see it this way, but the rules state it's only the "games" played between the tied teams that aren't counted, and all games are counted from any 4 defeated opponents, except for the "games" played between any of the 3 tied teams. So the wins from the tied teams should be a part of the tie-breaker, right? Or have there been changes made since the 2006-2007 KHSAA Handbook was issued? This makes for a significant change in the tie-breaker. :thumb:

Im not exactly following what you are saying. Are you implying that you can count the win over one of the teams involved in the tie-breaker or that it should be implemented to allow it.

Considering all the remaining teams involved in the tie breaker win out the rest of the regular season, it looks like Belfry will win the tie breaker by 1 point considering SC's can gain one more point in the tie breaker with a win over Magoffin Co.(who has 2 wins and would knock won of the 1 win teams SC currently has out) What SC needs to happen is for Fairland OH, whom I know nothing about other than they are 0-7, to pull out a win in the next two weeks and then SC and Belfry would be tied in the tie-breaker. Then I assume it would go to whomever won the head to head matchup of those two which would go to SC. I see no way possible for P-burg to make up any ground with its last two games being against district teams that both SC and Belfry have already beaten.

Like I said, the rules state it's only the "games" played between the tied teams that aren't counted, so none of the wins enjoyed by either of the 3 tied teams over each other count, BUT all games are counted from any 4 defeated opponents, except for the "games" played between any of the 3 tied teams, so the other wins by a defeated opponent(even a tied opponent) count. So, since The Scribe sees it the other way, it makes me wonder if there have been changes made to the tie-breaker rules since the 2006-2007 KHSAA Handbook was issued. And I also want to look at the record of Fairland since Sheldon Clark won that game.

Thanks for saving me the time of looking up Fairland's record! :thumb:

No problem.:thumb: I wanted to see if it would effect the tie-breaker but it doesnt. Or at least right now.

But P-burg and Belfry both have Shelby Valley remaining on their schedules. As a matter of fact, it's the only game left for Belfry. ;)

No, I don't see 2 wins by Fairland helping SC in the tie-breaker. SC already has other teams with better records.

Re-read post #16. Wins from any four teams that aren't involved in the tie-breaker are counted. I think we're saying the same thing.

No, that's not how it reads. In D)3)b)ii), "...each game won by any four of their defeated opponents in all games, except for the games played between any two of the tied teams" count. So, obviously, since the games played between any of the tied teams is stated, the intent is to include the tied teams when counting wins for all of the tied teams, just not games played between any two of the tied teams. So I wonder if the rules have changed?

No games between the tied teams don't count. It says "in all games, EXCEPT games between the tied teams".

I worked on this a little this afternoon.

In order to predict how this tie-breaker will finish, you have to make some assumptions. I will list my assumptions and then my predictions on the finishing order.

1. Assume that Sheldon Clark will beat Pike Central and Magoffin.

2. Assume that Belfry will beat Shelby Valley.

3. Assume that Prestonsburg will beat Shelby Valley and East Ridge.

Based on the remaining opponents of each team, and who those teams still play, here is how I think it will end up. After each team, I listed their current record and what I think their final record will be. I won't list each team and who I think they will beat or lose to, but you can look at their schedules on KHSAA website and play that game for yourselves. (I took into account that Shelby Valley will likely lose the forfeit over Matewan that was reversed last week.)

Belfry

Newport Catholic, 3-5, 5-5 – 5 points

Pikeville, 5-3, 7-3 – 7 points

Shelby Valley, 5-3, 5-5 – 5 points

Pike Central, 3-5, 4-6 – 4 points

Total = 21

Sheldon Clark

Boyd Co, 3-5, 4-6 – 4 points

Knott Co, 3-5, 4-6 – 4 points

Shelby Valley, 5-3, 5-5 – 5 points

Pike Central, 3-5, 4-6 – 4 points

Total = 17

Prestonsburg

Paintsville, 4-4, 5-5 – 5 points

East Ridge, 2-6, 3-7 – 3 points

Shelby Valley, 5-3, 5-5 – 5 points

Pike Central, 3-5, 4-6 – 4 points

Total = 17 points

Assuming Belfry, SC and Pburg all win out (like they should) then,

Belfry's fate is in the hands of NCC and Pikeville.

SC's fate is in the hands of Boyd and Knott.

Pburgs fate is in the hands of Paintsville and East Ridge.

Not the best teams to have your play-off fate it.

No games between the tied teams don't count. It says "in all games, EXCEPT games between the tied teams".

No, toots, it says "in all games, except for the games between ANY TWO of the tied teams". Your interpretation really makes better sense, in a way, but if that was the intent it didn't make it to print that way. :thumb:

I read it exactly that way o-line.

I think it means simply that only two teams can play each other at a time. So NONE of the games played between ANY TWO of the tied teams will count in the tie breaker calculations.

So you can't count Belfry vs SC or SC vs Pburg or Belfry vs Pburg.
