Owensboro Apollo hasn't interviewed-- nothing happening with that just yet. I think it will pick up now that we are in the new year.

Rosco-- so now you are an Owensboro supporter?? I thought I remember seeing you support OC a lot in summer time-- did you just have a change of heart? Or your kid transfer to there?

 

And to let you know-- I'm sure that Edge met with the higher ups-- as do most coaches and higher ups after each season.

 

Edge may have some sideline antics you don't agree with but I can't see him mistreating players- quality man in my book

Nah. I’m an OHS grad, but have a kid at catholic 4/6 campus. So I go to more of their games probably cause my kids want to be there. So I’d say I’m probably a fan of both now. Thanks for the update on Apollo interview. Who knows who they’ll get. But I’d think it could be a pretty good job if they can keep burns kids.

We aren't the same person. I graduated from OC awhile ago. I have a kid playing for the devils now. I am only commenting on what I have been told by people who have kids playing for Catholic now. You are entitled to your opinion, I think he's a very good coach (I would love to see what he'd do with the speed and athleticism that Owensboro has), but you have to know that not everyone over there is happy with him or the way he does things.

 

I guess they will put the search in high gear now. What do you think about where their search will go? In house or will they look outside the box? I hope they become competitive, it'll be much more interesting if all the teams in the area can compete with each other as opposed to the way it's been for the past several years.

It’s crazy that they knew that the position was going to be open last spring and have yet hired a coach to start the spring semester of school. Crume,Lasley,Robbins, and Broughton have to hire a coach that can relate to the kids and get the Alumni back over to support the Football program. I just hope they don’t mess this up like they have done in the past.

I agree with you. In all honesty, I hope ohs beats the brakes off them every time they play but it's much more fun to watch the city teams when they are ALL competitive and for a long time, you couldn't say that about apollo. Maybe they are looking at some really exceptional candidates (not just looking at the coaches there), they could be thinking the same thing you are and they don't want to mess it up. This pick could haunt them for a very long while. I grudgingly wish them luck. Next season isn't that far away.

Apollo moving to 6A in 2018. New stadium, new district, new schedule, same old Daviess County (with more at stake). What is that gonna do to the search for a coach?

Can't hurt. Everyone likes new things and a coach that doesn't have to worry about facility issues is a lucky man.

Not really a big deal. The district is most likely going to be Daviess, Henderson, and McCracken. 6A playoffs can be a bear but Apollo has only won four playoff games and played in one regional final (2001) in their history. The bar is relatively low.

What you've said makes sense if the Apollo team that played last year shows up. If they revert back to the team they've been for so long, it'll be a tough road to hoe for them in 5 or 6. I agree also that it would make sense to make that decision after they hire a coach.

If you are in 5A, you'd be in a district with state powers Christian County and Owensboro, solid program Graves County, and up-and-coming Ohio County (unless you hire their coach ) [i'm expecting Hopkinsville to drop to 4A after someone chooses to play up to 5A]. You'll be opposite Bowling Green, South Warren, and Greenwood. The KHSAA has kept Districts 1 and 2 together in every class besides 6A so you'll have to beat those teams every year.

 

If you are in 6A, the district isn't overwhelming. If they kept the western Kentucky schools in Region I, your toughest opponents over the first three rounds would be Central Hardin, Meade County, North Hardin, and anyone from your district. Of course over the last several years the KHSAA has paired District 1 with all sorts of other districts.

 

It is probably all a moot point, however, since Apollo is the fourth smallest school in Class 6A and therefore likely doesn't have any options but to play in 6A.
