Upcoming Deer Gun Season

Featured Replies

Well I suck. Sitting in a blind, probably the biggest deer I’ve ever had a chance at comes across the field at 6:10, and I miss it. I could pretty much throw up right now.

Although I rarely take a deer, I enjoy my time in the woods watching the rut take place. My sons harvest about enough for all of us.

This year has been the exception. Since the opening bell of gun season, I have 5 full days in my blind, 6am-6pm and two, 6 to noon days. Before today I'd seen 3 deer, two does, and a small spike. Moved today, and saw 7, including one small horned piebald buck, the rest does. Getting to watch that piebald chase does for about an hour was a treat, even more so that my oldest son, (29yrs old) was in the blind with me.

Here's his 2017 bow kill....

Went yesterday afternoon and this morning. Tons of doe but nothing with rantlers.

I watched this deer for a couple days. The first day I spent 6 hours watching him on a hillside with a doe, at one point breeding her, and that was a treat as you don't get that too often in real time.....

He slipped me on the second day, but the third day, he slipped up.

I would guess he dressed around 185 or so. Good deer, great hunt.....Mrs. BB can't wait until he's staring down at her from the mantle.....

This one is just for fun. This is a Texas deer. I had a project superintendent earlier this fall leave for a week to go back home to harvest this deer. This is a management deer from the Houston area.....the pics of the feral hogs were incredible.

Management Deer....yeah....

And one more....this one was killed very close to my farm. Guy consistently drops deer like this in a great honey hole.....

I hope some day to get one with a drop tine

After missing the one I shot at I saw several nice young bucks during the gun season but just nothing I wanted to take. I jumped one leaving the last Saturday of gun season (while I was driving out) that I would definitely take. I've got my trail cam up where he was bedded to see if I can get a pic or two. If he is still hitting the area I'm going to try to get a stand put up close.

Much less 2 drop tines and one of those split.....
