Revisiting: Early 6A Semi-Final Predictions

Featured Replies

For the first time since 2007, Class 6A will use a cross-bracketing procedure in the postseason. The KHSAA implemented this plan during the off-season but many are likely unaware who is playing who in the playoffs. This thread intends to outline the bracket and project favorites and contenders in each position. (Rankings listed are from the most recent Bluegrasspreps rankings)

REGION I

District 1 vs. District 2

Favorite: #11 Central Hardin, McCracken County

Contenders: Ohio County

Look Out For: Henderson County

The Number 1 seed in District 1 can control their destiny from home all the way to state, if they should continue winning. According to our predictions this could be Ohio County, but keep in mind McCracken's recent success is something to think about. Central Hardin appears poised to remain the team to beat in claiming Region I.

PREDICTION: Central Hardin takes the battle between District 1 and 2. A long road trip game at District 1's home field will be a test but we predict Central Hardin to take care of business here. Central Hardin should still be the favorite to win this region but McCracken County has shown it's worth so we cannot count them out.

REGION II

District 4 vs. District 6

Favorite: #1 Trinity

Contenders: #6 Simon Kenton, #14 Ballard

Look Out For: #12 Campbell County

Barring major upsets, the BGP's team predicts a clash between Trinity and Simon Kenton to decide the winner of Region II. I think it is safe to say many people on this board would love to see the Pioneers and the Shamrocks go at it again. If the seasons plays out with no upsets, these two teams could be meeting undefeated, which would only add to the hype of this possible match-up.

PREDICTION: Thru three games, you have to give Trinity a strong chance of claiming the champion of Region II. Anything can happen in football when two teams meet between the white lines, but all fingers point to Trinity coming out on top. This region has but 2 team in all reality playing for the title. If Trinity and Simon Kenton do not meet it would be consider a fairly large upset.

REGION III

District 3 vs. District 5

Favorite: #3 Saint Xavier

Contenders: #8 Pleasure Ridge Park, #4 Male, #9 Butler, #15 Manual, #5 Ryle

Look Out For: Conner, Cooper #8 Pleasure Ridge Park, #9 Butler

Talk about cluster of top teams all going at it in Region III. This will be without a doubt the most observed Region in 6A this year. Any number of teams could come out on top and not many would be surprised. Consider yourself lucky if your team is on the other side of the bracket. District play will begin soon and we will get a better understanding on how this Region might play out. I have a feeling home field advantage will play a key advantage.

PREDICTION: The winner is ______. Honestly this Region is up in the air. Our rankings would say Saint Xavier will come away as the victor, but in reality any of these teams could be the winner. Where we are in the season, I'd give the slight edge to Saint Xavier. Saint Xavier has proven to be the peak of this region with much improved Ryle close behind. Ryle would have the most difficult path to a state title than any other team.

REGION IV

District 7 vs. District 8

Favorite: #2 Scott County

Contenders: Lafayette, #10 Tates Creek, #7 Frederick Douglass

Look Out For: #7 Frederick Douglass #13 Henry Clay

In recent years it seems to be Lafayette and Scott County going head to head in order to advance in the playoffs. This time it is expected that they meet again, but it'll be in Regional play in 2017. Frederick Douglass will get their first taste as a new school in the playoffs this year. Currently they are the only team in 6A to be undefeated in the playoffs, granted, they also do not have a win either. Who, if anyone, can beat them?

PREDICTION: We feel as if Scott County has the best shot to get out of Region IV. Whoever does win Region IV will have a very tough semi-final game against Region III. Scott County should and is the favorite to come out of this region. Tates Creek and Fredrick Douglas could pose trouble and offer great games.

*-Reminder: Since 2017 is an odd year, if two teams with the same seed meet in the regional final, the team from the odd district would host.

SEMIFINALS

Trinity at Central Hardin

Scott County at Saint Xavier

How do you think it will play out?

** Teams BOLDED remained where they were. Teams in RED have decreased since earlier predictions. Teams in GREEN have increased since earlier predictions.

We get the honor of playing Scott Co first game in playoffs.

Great job of putting this thread together.

Which first round games will be played on turf? Might be some muddy games.

St.X and Trinity have turf. Not sure what other teams have it. I know Male has grass.

Central Hardin is looking forward to playing on a grass surface, the way it was meant to be played, in the elements, just ask Ballard last week how effective Central Hardin was.

My Prediction

Central Hardin 42

Ohio County 12

Should be a breeze. The game with McCracken will have the eyes on it.

I'm curious why Ryle seems to be getting more recognition this year from people across the state than they did last year? Last year mostly Ryle people talked them up. Now seems like more people are trying to talk them up across the state as possible contenders to at least get to Trinity. While this year's Ryles team is good. I don't see them being no where near as good as last year's team. I think last year's Ryle team beats this year's Ryle team by 21 or more. So i am not saying they are bad, because they are good. Im just curious why they seem to be getting more attention this year as a contender?
