October 31, 20178 yr They just reduced their chances for the #1 pick by taking Garoppolo. If he's as "plug and play" as they say he was in NE then he will no doubt give SF a better chance to win some games. Cleveland, on the other hand, is trying to dodge the Zero-Win bullet for the 2nd year in a row. The question is, why is Garoppolo in SF and not Cleveland? Rumor was that Cleveland offered a 2nd rounder and some change for Garoppolo leading up to the draft and NE wanted a king's ransom. This latest trade wasn't made in the dark so Cleveland probably knew G was available but made no play for him. And Cleveland definitely needs a different QB on the roster. Cleveland may need a new GM.
October 31, 20178 yr Cleveland may need a new GM. I don't think so. See the discussion about that very issue here: http://bluegrasspreps.com/national-football-league/stay-the-course-355496.html
November 1, 20178 yr Brian Hoyer signed by Patriots today. So the Pats and 49ers trade backup QBs, and Pats net two draft picks. Pure Belichek!
November 2, 20178 yr Brian Hoyer signed by Patriots today. So the Pats and 49ers trade backup QBs, and Pats net two draft picks. Pure Belichek! Figured that's what they were going to try and do. I like it for the Patriots.

This also explains why NE didn't trade Garoppolo to Cleveland for a better deal than they got from SF. BB knew Hoyer would be cut and he wanted Hoyer. Cleveland doesn't have a backup QB that NE wanted.
