Notre Dame 35 North Carolina State 14

This would be the first year where you could really make the case that 8 teams would have been absolutely necessary to make sure the best team won. In the end I don't think this scenario plays out, but ND is the curveball in all of this because they haven't been a real factor to the playoff yet.

This might be a good thing for the NCAA to go to an 8 team playoff. If the Irish wins out an you have two power 5 conference champs out and a very good one loss team from the Big 10 or the SEC. They might really think about it that way you get all 5 power 5 champs N.D. a couple of good teams with one loss and even a possible undefeated team not from the power 5. I personally would like to see 8 teams.

Every year it has basically played itself out. I would expect that to happen this year as well. But if it doesn't I think we get to 8 teams sooner rather than later.

I think the 1 loss Notre Dame vs. 1 loss Georgia scenario would be fascinating to see how the committee would play that out. A 1 loss Ohio State vs. a 1 loss Oklahoma would also be fascinating.

It would be very interesting. I think the committee will base it a lot on how they are playing come seasons end. If ND just barely squeaks by Miami and Stanford and UGA blows out Auburn and loses by a FG to Bama. Then they go UGA. But if ND keeps rolling like they have been, and UGA struggles against Auburn and loses to Bama by 2 TD's I think they go ND. Same thing with OSU and OU. It will come down to how they look at the end of the year. If OU can prove they can play some defense against Ok State and TCU and hold them to under 20 points and win by 3 or 4 TDs, I'll start to get nervous.
