Bowling Green finished 8-2, beating Bullitt Central 28-0.

Owensboro rallied from behind for a 39-20 win over Henderson County finishing 4-6.

The two met on Sept 8th, with Bowling Green winning 48-21.

Last year Bowling Green ended Owensboro’s season in the 3rd round 50-21.

Do the Red Devils have a chance or do the Purples add to their 7 game winning streak as they enter the playoffs as 2 time defending champs?

To me, this is a scary first round game for the Purples. I know our win streak against them is what most folks across state will consider but the Purples need to show up Friday night. I wouldn't think many 5 A teams would view the Red Devils as an easy out in week 1 of playoffs.

With that said, I still feel BG coaching staff will make sure no arrogance or egos will take the field Friday night but rather a focused team that wants to hurry up and get this game over with.

Red Devil faithful know that in past few years the JVs, Frosh and middle school has faired well against the Purples. I think the dominant wins by Purples varsity squads last couple of seasons has made some of the fan base and alumni from Devils question their coaching staff.

Devils has some athletes and if they can hold on to the ball and keep Purples offense off field the game could get interesting.

I think Red Devils believe the only way to settle the grumbling and rumors is to take care of business Friday night. If they lose again, not so sure grumbling won't become even more vocal.

Owensboro will be a dangerous team but I feel Purples has too many weapons.

45 - 14 Purples

I know this, If you are a #1 seed the list of teams you would rather NOT see rolling up in your parking lot for a first round game definitely includes the Owensboro Senior Red Devils.

BG will not overlook this team.

You don't overlook the Red Devils.

Owensboro has made some changes to their personnel offensively rolling into this game. BG seems to be hitting on all cylinders right now and will be a TALL task for anyone at home. I just feel like Owensboro has not played their best game yet. Being that we are 10 games into the season, it may never happen. I have just been waiting for them to put it together. If they do, their potential is scary. Bad penalties, mistakes in game situations and really ugly turnovers have cost the Devils a winning season. If they can eliminate all those things and play a clean game, I think they can keep this one close. No matter what happens, Monte Owsley needs more touches on offense. The kid is special. I think hes proven it with what hes done in very limited action.

Purple 88's Keys to the Game:

For Owensboro:

1. Neutralize the Kicking Game. No cheap TDs including long kickoff returns and punt returns. BG has KILLED teams here.

2. Establish the run. If Owensboro can not run the ball effectively with the offensive package I've seen through 10 games, they will not beat BG. They have weapons and a very good OLine.

3. Start Strong. You can't be down after the first quarter. You can be tied. Historically if you are going to score on BG, it is in the first half. You MUST score points early.

4. No Turnovers. You had 6 in the first game. Anywhere close to that in this one and it's over quick.

For BG,

1. Play the run, but beware! Owensboro will run the ball, but they will add some schemes you will not see on film for this game. I would say most involve Owsley, 1 of the most undervalued guys in the West, on some type of counter play.

2. Spy on Owsley. Don't let him beat you. O IMO doesn't have anyone else close to breaking it like he can. He's a real threat.

3. Continue on with the offense. QB Buchanon has been playing as well as anyone. Keep the throttle down.

4. Win the kicking game. Kickoffs, punts, field goals and returns. You've done so all year. Do it again!

Overall: This one really scares me because I know how good Owensboro's personnel is. With that said they would have to play much more disciplined than they have all year in order to take this game. Owensboro is capable (their last win vs BG was at El Donaldson Stadium in the playoffs), but I just don't see them sustaining enough offense to win this game.

BG 28 O 14

Bowling Green 35-7.

Excited for this game. Devils haven't been good, but have the speed to make this one interesting. Turnovers have killed them all year. If they lose BIG then Fallin seat gets hot. To much talent there young or not to lose this many games, especially to D.C. And apollo.
