The Juggernauts had been hovering around the outside of the 2A top 10 for several weeks. They forced their way in with authority by dominating district kingpin Newport Central Catholic, 46-14.

Is this Juggs squad built to compete with Danville/LCA and possibly get to Kroger Field, or will they be cut down by NewCath (in a 2nd Round rematch) or Glasgow before they can even get out of the Region?

I think we have to like the Jugg's chances into at least the 3rd round of the playoffs.

It is a shame no one wants to talk about Lloyd Football.

Bill Botts. Rudy Tassini. Roy Lucas, Jr. 3 of my favorite Juggernauts. We had some great battles with them when I was at Mason between 1996 & 2004. Glad to see them having success!

Who Lloyd face in second round? I would think them being a number one seed in the distric that they would not see NCC until the third round. Can someone explain this please?

Lloyd and Newport were great additions to Russell and Mason's district back then. Those games were always tough, especially making the two and a half hour trip up there, at least for Russell anyway. That district was stacked for a couple of years when Lawrence County was there too.

They'd likely see Monroe County in the 2nd Round, unless Newport can pull an upset there. Glasgow and NewCath will probably meet in the other 2nd Round game.

My first year at Mason was 96. We were in a tough district with Russell, Lloyd & Newport. Lawrence got added in 97 AND East Carter had a very good team at that time also. I thought, “good grief...what have I got myself into!?”

That district benefited everyone in it, IMO. Very competitive.

I have mixed feelings about that. We weren't that bad at Mason, but at one point were 1-6 in 98. We got through it, and turned the corner at the end of the season. But, I was really concerned about losing our team/program. I will agree though that after fighting through it, we came out a substantially better football program. But, it was a very tough stretch.

Lloyd is in a very winnable region. The semi-finals is probably their ceiling, though. Not sure that they can hang with Danville or LCA for four quarters.

Good thread DMC. This is another good example of why a team should play tough opponents. I think the game that got Lloyd where they are right now was their loss to Beechwood. The Juggernauts learned something about themselves in that game - they are a run first ,run second, run third team and should only pass enough to keep their opponent honest. Their QB has a good arm but he is inconsistent and inaccurate. In the Beechwood game, Lloyd tried to mix it up and was passing the ball. At half time they trailed 28-0. In the second half they found some success running the ball, kept running it more and more and the final score was only 35-14.

If their QB throws more than 10 passes in the game, it is a mistake. Stick to your strength. In the New Cath game their QB was 5-10 and Lloyd had 46 rushing plays that resulted in 272 yards rushing. If Lloyd sticks to that formula, they can go deep in the playoffs. I think they can make it to the semi-finals but I don't see them getting past whoever they would face there.
