South Laurel 21 Whitley Co. 20

Final score.

I picked SL in a close one and I was right! Hats off to the Cards on this big win. They have to win out to make the playoffs, but this was a good start in getting their first district win.

After missing several games in a row with a knee injury, Cody Quinn made his return a big one by recovering a fumble with 2:24 to go as Whitley was driving for a go-ahead score.

Whitley probably just missed their last chance at a win in the district this year.

Congrats to both teams on a hard faught game. Whitley had basicly four plays that killed them.

I am sure the Whitley faithful are wondering what could have been had they not fumbled. Also I am sure that they are wondering what could have happened if they had their ranks not been so thinned by injuries, 5 starters for a total of 34 games, and that does not include the three games missed by Baird along with the single games missed by at least 8 other players. I have never seen a team so hit by injuries.

Jim Black is a class act and I am sure that he will have (next year) his team back to where most Jim Black teams have been, playing hard and in the mix for the playoffs and the district crown.

Good win for South Laurel on the road , even with the refs making terrible calls those boys hung in there and got a hard fought win. South also had its share of injuries. But good win and good luck against Montgomery County!

I was rootin for the Colonels and hoping that they would pull this out. Looks like they almost had it. Keep your heads up and bounce back next week Whitley and good luck the rest of the way.

Very good win for South and could be a good get them in.

Coach Black inherited a tough situation(Gentry) at Whitley this year and also had to deal with a lot of bad luck. I expect Whitley to be the one of the top teams in their district next year and could make some noise in the playoffs as well. You have to feel bad for Coach Black and the Colonels this year though.
