BluegrassPreps Class 2A Football Rankings (10/16) Discussion

Class 2A

The story of the week in Class 2A is the Lloyd Juggernauts. Lloyd handed Newport Central Catholic a rare District loss and got the best of the Thoroughbreds for the first time in many years and now take hold on winning the District Title. Lexington Christian Academy handled Somerset with almost surprising ease and now loads up for a massive showdown with Danville. These two split the season series last year and provided two instant classic type of games. Glasgow took down Monroe County in convincing fashion and now only needs to take down Metcalfe County to secure home-field advantage in the playoffs.

1. Danville at #3 Lexington Christian Academy

2. DeSales vs. Shawnee

3. Lexington Christian Academy vs. #1 Danville

4. Mayfield at Webster County

5. Christian Academy- Louisville vs. Washington County

6. Somerset vs. Middlesboro

7. Walton-Verona at Gallatin County

8. Lloyd vs. Covington Holy Cross

9. Glasgow vs. Metcalfe County

10. Newport Central Catholic at Newport

How did Owensboro Catholic get out of top 10?

How did Owensboro Catholic get out of top 10?

I think their lack of quality wins is what ultimately did it. Using Calpreps, every team in the top 10 has a better win on their resume than O-Cath, who counts Daviess as their best victory. And this isn't a poll where winners automatically move up and losers drop down. Who would you rank Owensboro Catholic ahead of and why?

Im just curious. They been in top 10 all year. They didn't get beat by any district opponents and then all sudden they are out this week. IF quality of wins is what is factored then I understand. However, I would take Walton Verona out. Their schedule is very weak. On the other hand OC was much stronger. LCA is a quality loss if you want to call any loss quality. My question loss for them was Country Day.

Newport Central came to mind, but their quality win, in my opinion that keeps them in all year is CAL. They beating CAL is a quality win period

Glasgow. Not sure about a quality win on their schedule.

All fair points. It could likely be argued Newport Central Catholic and Owensboro Catholic are 10A and 10B.

OCath is the odd man out.

Lloyd had to get into the Top 10 and ahead of NewCath, but NewCath has two more quality wins that OCath.

I think the gap is small and if OCath defeated either Apollo or Owensboro they may be the team in.

The way Lloyd beat New Cath played them in. That's the way I see it.

For sure!

How far does the loser of the Danville vs LCA game drop?

Very fair asessment. Just thought they are in the Top 10 all year and have won 4-5 in a row and now out. I agree with the assesments. Loyd should be in after crushing NCC and NCC beat CAL so they should be in. Just not sure about Walton Verona.

Guess it depends on how the game plays out.

If it is a super tight game and LCA loses it may be hard to justify dropping them.

If Danville loses a close game they may fall to 3rd (LCA and DeSales move up a spot)

If LCA gets blown out then I think it will be hard to keep them ahead of Mayfield.

If Danville gets blown out they may drop below Mayfield as well.

Is the Newport Catholic win over Christian Academy Louisville the most puzzling result this season? I know CAL lost their quarterback that game but with the way CAL was putting it on people prior to that you would think there was a lot more around that team than the quarterback and Milton. Now in light of the Lloyd score, that NCC CAL game is a real puzzler to me.

Judging by Calpreps it appears to be one of the biggest upsets

NewCath is #5159

CAL is #1426

When I was in college we went to a West Jessamine vs. Boyle County game. One of the guys in my fraternity was from West Jessamine and his brother was the starting RB for West Jess

West Jessamine controlled the LOS and Boyle shot themselves in the foot numerous times and lost that game. That NewCath/CAL game reminded me a lot of that one.

2002 was the year.. Boyle went on to win the State Title.

West Jessamine finished 7-4 and lost in Round 1

Remember that CAL had just lost their QB that week of the NCC game, not much time to adjust. Trust me, the Centurions are still good without Carr. Even better with him.
