October 5, 200620 yr CRIMINAL....you dont get to pick and choose when to fight. By the way...my Brother is currently serving his 3rdtour....you think he's happy?
October 5, 200620 yr I would call him either. Should a person fight/kill in something they don't believe in? Is this Nazi Germany? No! If he really believes he sinned by fighting/killing in Iraq then so be it. But for someone to say that his "only sin was abandoning his military unit." Is wrong. Another sin, is that we "con" these teenagers and people in their early 20's by waving money in front of the for college to get them to enlist. Brilliant. A better idea would be to not assist in educating them. That would curb the "sinning". You've got to be kidding.

October 5, 200620 yr Recruiters straight lie. Friend after friend after friend that joins reports back that the recruiter was lying. I've told my sons that I have no problem with them talking to a recruiter, just make sure I'm there when they do.
October 5, 200620 yr Author 1. There are proper chanels that any soldier can follow if he/she feels that criminal acts are occuring. 2. He signed on for a certain period of time and when he signed on he had to have known that going into battle was was not only a possibility it was likely. If that didn't play into his decision making then yes he was and/or is stupid. I will be the first person in line to thank every one of the men and women that are now serving our country in uniform. What this deserter did was impugn every soldier in Iraq with his "No Heroes" statement. IMVHO that makes him worse then a criminal because he is dishonoring those that have enough personal honor to fulfill their committment. How long before this honorless deserter is on the anti-war trail like Cindy Sheehan. If he was killing civilians by superiors orders I can't blame him for not taking the proper channels. His "no heroes" comment was based on his hero welcome that he reecieved when he returned. Purple heart and wounded soldier greeted by his Mom. Bet that made him feel great. The vast vast majority of the country is not welcoming back our soldiers as war heroes. If you were sent to Iraq to fight terrorists and you were ordered to kill civilians, what honor is there in serving your country????????? I hope none of our soldiers are committed to that.
October 5, 200620 yr Author I've told my sons that I have no problem with them talking to a recruiter, just make sure I'm there when they do. :thumb: One of my best friends was told he could pick where he wanted to go. Then they sent him to Korea for a year. The next year he did pick a small base in Texas and I believe stayed there for 2 years. Then they sent him to Germany and he does a lot of the "civilianizing" of soldiers who are returning from war. Out of all my friends who have joined the Army, I think it was a good move for 2 of them. The rest hated it and viewed it as a mistake.

I think you are 100% wrong about this and I would love for you to provide some data to back up this assertation. I also think that you are overplaying the "ordered to kill civialians" thing.
October 5, 200620 yr Author I think you are 100% wrong about this and I would love for you to provide some data to back up this assertation. I also think that you are overplaying the "ordered to kill civialians" thing. How many people do you know in Iraq? How many are coming back to parties and parades? I know 0. I know a lot of people who have gone or are currently serving. Every day people are returning and once or twice a month the news will tell of a heroes welcome. A lot of these men are coming back to their family's welcome. A lot of their families have moved on because they were gone for so long. I think the civilian thing is the most important part of his case. If it's true I can't blame him. If it isn't than he's a deserter.
October 5, 200620 yr I seem to recall a group from Ft. Campbell returning a few months back and as I recall there was a very large welcoming party for them. Where is the "vast majority" you described. If anything you last post makes it sound like most soldiers are welcomed back very well. And what do you mean by "their families have moved on because they were gone so long". If you are implying that families are forgetting about their relatives in the service I would say to you that is a problem with the family not the Army or teh service in general. In your other posts you act like the killing of civialians was a definate occurance and that it was being ordered, now in this post you say "if it's true". I'll agree with you on one thing IF there are people ordering the killing of civialians they are wrong, they should be investigated and punished if appropriate BUT I have seen nothing that would make me believe that this is a widespread occurance and in fact I only see it as a cowardly attempt by the deserter to try to justify his actions.

A few months back? OK think about the amount of soldiers returning daily to their respective homes. You remember a welcome at an Army base a few months back. In Cincinnati it happens a little more freguently, but not with every soldier. I don't really believe that we are ordering widespread civilian murder, but on a small scale it happens in every war. The divorce rate among soldiers while they are gone and when they return is what I meant by their families are moving on without them. GRanted that's partly faults in the family, but a spouse being gone for a year can put a ton of stress on the relationship. The coward comment I kind of agree with and kind of don't. He did serve a tour of duty which is more than I've done. Also, if his accusations are true he is standing up for his beliefs and standing up to the US Military has to take courage of some level. If he's lying and just didn't want to go back I agree that he is a coward.
October 5, 200620 yr Criminal. If you sign up for the service, you do so with the knowledge that you may have to fight. To join so you get your college paid for is IMHO selfish, and should somehow not be allowed.
