What's wrong with Hardin County Football?

I always feel like Central Hardin is at a disadvantage against passing teams, especially this years DBs and had trouble with Southwestern's quickness. Seems to me that balancing the talent between East and West Hardin middle schools and building 2 strong programs vs funneling all talent through East Hardin and leaving the cupboard bear for West Hardin year after year does not benefit the high school program.

Central Hardin will end up having a decent year. They probably over-scheduled a bit.

Hope Central Hardin can put together a run here at the end of the season, win the district and make a strong showing in the playoffs. They are out west this year for the playoffs and this should serve them well as I don't see any strong opponents out west in 6A this year in the way of Central Hardin and a Region Championship. GO BRUINS.

@Nathaniel Bryan

No way JH should be that small, right? And NH hasn't even been competitive with their schedule.

John Hardin IS that small, though. 2-A in track and cross country.

Although technically NOT illegal, how John Hardin has shrunk in the middle of a housing boom is head scratching. If the plan was to make North Hardin more powerful by making it bigger AND give the HCS system a chance at small school championships with John Hardin ... well, that is failing miserably.

If Central Hardin was against ANY other 6A district pairing, I would be concerned. However, CH is in the weakest region of 6A by far and one of the weakest (by averge ranking of teams) in the 3 larger classes.

Central is in a terrible region and could make a decent playoff run based off that alone. They are no where near the same team as the past couple of years with Reece Iller and Barbour. They have no skill player speed this year on offense like years past. Hobbs is a good player for them at QB. What's happening at John is crazy. The school is shrinking in size big time. I have heard as low as 850 students. They could be 3A next time the state aligns. I'm not sure when that happens. North graduated a ton plus they are young this year. They have a good QB and nice freshman back, but 6A ball is won up front in the lines. Oxindine is a man but can't do it alone. Plus a nasty schedule leads for a less than desired record. Etown has a nice team this year and should for the next 3-4 years. They have a good group of kids coming through right now. I remember just a few years back the Panthers were struggling to break .500 too. As we all know players will make good coaches and the talent level overall in this area is down from what it has been the past few years. I've watched several games this year and it looks to me the numbers of players on each team is down as well although I could be wrong there.

Lack of support by administration and central office, both at HS and lower levels.

Not sure what's been going on in previous years, but back in the mid 2000s, John and North were the same size, and Central was a bit smaller. Central is almost the biggest school in the state, and John was built to reduce it's size. Also, I do remember Central, North, and John playing most of their best players both ways, but I don't think that is the case anymore at all 3 schools. Oxendine should be playing both ways, along with several others, no question about it.

As an outsider looking in, John Hardin could just as easily be 1-6 right now instead of 3-4. With two close wins against Daviess and Meade (wasn't that a come from behind win), the Bulldogs could have really been in a bad shape. I fully expect them to win their last 3 games and be 6-4 come playoff time. They have four losses. Boyle County, North Hardin, Central Hardin, and Western. Not a bad bunch. Western is deceiving due to their schedule. Losing by a couple scores to NH & CH is one thing, but losing by 36 points to Western is baffling.

Unless Central Hardin has grown THAT much over the last 2 years, it was a couple hundred shy of being the largest school in the state.

I graduated from Central Hardin in the 1990s. At that time, both Central Hardin AND North Hardin had over 2,000 kids.

I'll eat crow if I am wrong, but I don't think either is close to 2K currently.

For the last 3 years Central Hardin has been around 1,900 students and this year with a freshman class numbering over 600, it should be over 2,000.

What he said Central has been flirting with 2k for some time now.

For the last 3 years Central Hardin has been around 1,900 students and this year with a freshman class numbering over 600, it should be over 2,000.

Central Hardin was at 1,817 last year, making it the 14th biggest school in the state.

North was at 1,583, making it the 23rd biggest.

Scott County (2,470) is currently the largest, but will be splitting. And I'm assuming new school Douglass pulled some from No. 2 Henry Clay (2,398), No. 3 PLD (2,245) and No. 4 Lafayette (2,215). McCracken is fifth at (2,028)

John Hardin, FWIW, was at 932 for the 16-17 school year.

https://khsaa.org/reports/enrollments/20162017schoolenrollmenttotalsbyenroll.pdf

Using the 16-17 KHSAA enrollments, CH had 467 freshmen last school year, 490 sophomores, 467 juniors and 391 seniors for a total of 1,817 for 16-17.

Assuming EVERY student in 10-12 returned (doubtful) or transfers made up for it, the current freshman class would have to be, at minimum, 574 (keep in mind that is still 100 bigger than last year's freshman class, a 22 percent growth), just to get to 2,000. Even if it was 650 (haven't seen that number listed ANYWHERE), that gets CH to 2,076. Breaks the mark, but not "well over 2,000."

If that's the case, than I do apologize for my previous math.

I thought last year's senior class was bigger than that (391).

As far as North, no way it is near 2K. North had 1,233 returning from last year, so it would have to have a MONSTER freshman class (567?) just to get to 1,800. Last year's freshman class was 436.

KDE said CHHS was at 1870 last year before finishing at 1,817 (loss of 53 throughout the year).

Hardin County

More numbers

I don’t know how much truth is behind it but I had heard a rumor that Fort Knox command sent out an email to Hardin County schools telling them to be ready for a influx of students due to new units coming to Fort Knox. Again I’m not sure if it’s true or not but if it is that would help out John Hardin tremendously. Has anyone else heard this?
