Personally I think they should take the ball, dip it in bronze, make a tastefull mounting for it, and then give it to the ref as a momento of the game. I mean come on guys, be classy about it!

Who determines that tough? thats where the really issue lies, what is acceptable and what is not, and who determines it.

I'll determine it. Tossing a ball in the air after an interception affects no one and shouldn't be penalized. Anyone, be they coaches, fans, or internet commenters, should be sent to a corner immediately if they voice complaint. Done and done!

Maybe I'm a " Old School " kind of guy...but I would like to see the player drop it or hand it to the ref. There is plenty of time to get your hand shaked, helmet slapped or coach hugged on the way to your sideline. I understand emotions, excitement and celebrations....just don't flip it away from the spot. That way everyone is happy, .........kum-by-ya. IMO

Anything that would be considered taunting or disrespectful towards another team. Celebrating after a pick by throwing the ball up in the air is neither of those, nor does it have an effect on the game. Next are we going to let players shoot technical foul shots after big time basketball games when a player throws the ball up towards the rafters? What is the difference?

Exactly. Only penalize things that have an affect on the game or shows bad sportsmanship. Neither of which fit this scenario.

Why does it matter though? I don't care if an official has to walk an extra 10 yards to pick up a ball. Odds are that ball is being swapped out anyways after a pick.

Just wanted to clarify its the entity and not the employee following a directive to stay employed.
