Where has Mr. Brown gone?

 

From reliable sources, Coach Brown has stepped away from coaching to focus on his job and his kids in Lexington. Again, from reliable sources, Coach Brown resigned before the season and CC wished him the best. I personally know Coach Donaldson and the Cougars will be in very capable hands.

Just now hearing about this. It is sad but predicatable. The worst part is waiting until a week before the season and leaving the school no time to search for a replacement. I don't know the assistant but I'm assuming he has no head coaching experience and was not planning on being a head coach this season. From what I hear, Calvary basketball coud be having the success that soccer has had but it is hard when you're changing coaches every year or two. What a mess.

All due respects to Coach Brown, but in many ways, Coach Donaldson ran the show last year, just without the title of Head Coach. He ran roughly 1-2 practices a week with Coach Brown living in Lexington. Late in the season, Coach Brown was suspended for three games and Coach Donaldson went 3-0 in those games.

 

I don't believe he has further experience as a Head Coach, but he did play Division 1 basketball with Derek Fisher at Arkansas Little-Rock.

 

He also has a 7th grade daughter in the Girls Basketball program at Calvary, so he may hopefully plan to be around for a while.

I appreciate the info. Big difference between running a few practices or filling in a few games and running an entire program. And, playing level doesn't equal coaching level. I've been around guys who were on D1 rosters and were not good HS coaches.

Oh of course, its a big difference. But the point is, he's been around the program, the school and the kids, picking up slack and earning trust and respect. Those are the building blocks especially at a place like Calvary. And coupling trust and respect with a knowledge of the game is a good starting point.

 

With any new hire, there will obviously be growing pains. But it sounds like he's coming into some good talent and guys who will work for him.

 

And more than anything, Calvary needs coaches who care and stick around.

Agreed. In general, seems like some of the coaches there are decently tenured.

Was it even posted on KHSAA? I wager to say that Orlando will do a great job with Calvary.

Usually for resignations this late in the preseason, they just hire someone instead of posting it. They are indeed allowed to do that. Just like when a teacher quits on July 31st, schools do not have to post the position for 30 days like normal.

They are private so they wouldn't have to and it was less than a week before the season was to start so I think few would have posted it that late anyway
