Cold Springs, Ky native and Campbell Co. H.S. graduate Daniel Martin Moore landed on the scene in 2008 with his fantastic debut "Stray Age" and has since put out a total of 8 releases all said and done.

 

After "Stray Age" he was recognized by Jim James of My Morning Jacket who has pretty much been producing his albums ever since.

I posted this before this thread was started, but she'd make more sense within this topic.

 

Covington native and Scott High grad Jesse Thomas wasted no time running off to L.A. immediately following graduation, and turned critics' heads with her tasty folky outpout on her first EP in 2010.

 

I've had the pleasure a couple of times catching her live on tour when she made her way back home to play locally.

33 year old Cellist, singer-songwiter, and multi-instrumentalist Ben Sollee from Lexington, Ky has steadily been mounting his music career with his very tasteful blended brand of heartland folk, bluegrass, jazz, and classical putting out 10 full length releases over the last 9 years.

 

Aside from his own solo work he has worked with countless other famous artists within the folky ranks.

 

I've had the pleasure of seeing him perform in 2010 when we put out the album "Dear Companion" with other Kentucky great, Cold Springs, Ky native and Campbell Co. H.S. grad Daniel Martin Moore.

 

From Louisville, Ky - Jim James and My Morning Jacket...

 

Over the last 15 years or so Louisville native Jim James has become massively famous as the leader of the jam rock band My Morning Jacket, and pretty much now is being considered the father of the this hippy genre now that Jerry Garcia has passed.

 

Just like Deadheads who travelled the country following The Grateful Dead, you now have hippies far and wide traveling to follow Jim James and My Morning Jacket.

 

Going by many stage names such as Palace Brothers, Palace Music, and since 1999 Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Louisvile, Ky native Will Oldham has put out 22 full length releases in 24 years as a folk recording artist forging his own original brand of the often unusual with his heart vividly on his sleeve.

 

From Louisville, Ky and most notable for their landmark 1991 release "Spiderland" indie rock band Slint only released two albums in total, but this their last release has been recognized as highly influential within the indie underground by numerous indie band musicians.

 

Considered their epic tune that was the last track on the record...it's a spoken word tune that slowly evolves into a dramatic intense ending.

Born in Lexington, Ky - Chris Stapleton is an award winning singer-songwriter/guitarists who began his career writing songs for numerous famous artists such as Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Darius Rucker with 6 number 1 country songs under his belt.

 

He has written over 150 songs that have appeared on albums by such artists as Adele, Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, and Dierks Bentley.

 

Among other artists, he has co-written with Vince Gill, Peter Frampton, and Sheryl Crow.

 

In 2015 he released his first solo record "Traveller" that reached number one the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Among several accolades, he won Country Music Association Awards, and the Academy of Country Music Awards for Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, and the Grammy Award for the Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance at the 58th annual ceremony.

 

His second studio album "From A Room: Volume 1" was released on May 5, 2017. Stapleton's music styles include Southern rock, and bluegrass.

Richard Hell from Lexington, Ky was an innovator of the punk music and fashion.

 

He was one of the first to spike his hair and wear torn, cut, and drawn on shirts, often held together with safety pins.

 

Hell was a source of inspiration for the Sex Pistols' look and attitude.

 

He was in several important early punk bands, including Neon Boys, Television, and the Heartbreakers, after which he formed Richard Hell & the Voidoids.

 

Their 1977 album Blank Generation influenced many other punk bands.

 

It's title track was named "One of the 500 songs That Shaped Rock" by music writers in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame listing, and is ranked as one of the all-time Top 10 punk songs by a 2006 poll of original British punk figures, as reported in the Rough Guide to Punk.

Pat O'Brien one of the most famous guitarist within the Death Metal ranks was born in Northern Kentucky, and graduated from Conner High School in Hebron in 1983.

 

He is most recognized for being the lead guitarist for the death metal band "Cannibal Corpse" as well as his time playing in the famous metal band "Slayer", and "Chastain".

 

Some Northern Kentucky metal heads might recall his early days as the guitarist for the local popular band "Prizoner".

 

His career really took off when being recognized by famed guitarist David T. Chastain who was the virtuoso lead guitarist for such bands as Spike, CJSS, and Chastain.

Dude can certainly shred...

 

Note: I respect him as an amazing guitar player, and while I was once a metal head, when Death Metal came around with those growling vocals, it was time for me for the most part give it up.

 

I got to see him play live before it ever got that extreme, and also see him shred in band practice settings when one of my best friends, who is a bassist, used to jam with him.
