DG Sherrill has stepped down to take over as the district's Director of Pupil Personnel. He has resigned from his position as Athletic Director as well.

 

He finished with a 307-92 (.769) record at Bowling Green. He's the second winningest coach ever at Bowling Green, won more region titles than any Purple HC before him and led them to a state title as well as two title game appearances. He won his final 48 games against Region 4 competition (65 of 66), as well as 28 in a row against District 14 competition. His departure will mean Bowling Green basketball will have just their fifth head coach since 1985.

I'm not certain that they've promoted from within before for this spot, and it will definitely draw a lot of interest, but I'd imagine Derrick Clubb will put in for it. Former South Warren HC and a very significant member of the staff for most of the runs by the Purples. The 2014 surprise title was only one of the six region titles won under Sherrill that Clubb was not on his staff for.

I looked it up in the Kentucky High School Basketball Encylopedia, but don't have it in front of me. Whoever it was coached back in like the 40s. Had 400 wins I believe. I only have the full results back through 1965 personally.

That one I'd had. I knew when Sherrill passed Simpson during the region tournament that he potentially had become the winningest at Bowling Green, but consulted the encyclopedia to find Smith. I'm trying to work all the way back on Bowling Green's game by game results, but that is an arduous task.
