UofL "Out of Control Foundation"

What a hot freaking mess. Disappointing is just an inadequate word in this case. I still support this university and the athletics. There has to be major, drastic changes soon though.

I'm not trying to stir the pot, but I'm curious what specific changes you would advocate. I assume you are referring to personnel, but not sure whom you mean.

Saying drastic change is needed is the easy part, specifying what that drastic change will be is the hard part. The obvious change, the president being gone has been made. Now the question is, how deep do the firings need to go? I have no doubt there will be some fired who had nothing to the problems and their job wouldn't make they privy to knowing either but donors, the media and the public in general will demand numerous more walk the symbolic plank.

They fired their law firm and the CPA firm which did their internal audits (not sure about external). Wonder if those two firms had been correctly warning the Foundation all along and had been ignored by the Foundation? Who knows, I have worked with both and they seemed very competent to me. I used to work for the CPA firm which audited the KY Lottery (PricewaterhouseCoopers) and every year our audit resulted in a management letter that would mention numerous problems and lack of internal control and state officials would just file away our report ignoring our recommendations to fix those issues. That is until fraud was uncovered and those same state officials and the Courier Journal both through us under the bus and the state fired us.

UofL athletics are so corrupt that it's embarrassing. They really need to clean house.

Well, the entire board was fired a year or so ago but people said that was too major and drastic. Looking back, it looks to be the appropriate action to take, go with a fresh start to clean things up.

The issue of firing the Board was that it left us in a precarious and uncertain position relative to accreditation. It was done completely inappropriately.

That's all you got out of this? It is absolutely on questionable footing. But this report has FAR more concerning issues that need resolution.

Actually, I'm not even sure what personnel should be replaced at this point, as Ramsey is gone, the board of the Foundation is in flux, and the CFO of the Foundation is on "paid administrative leave". Which is a crock. The CFO should be gone.

I have always been a HUGE fan of Tom Jurich. I am trying to wrap my head around the issues concerning him. And I am MOST definitely concerned about the Mark Jurich salary issue.

But when I say drastic change, I mean in the way the University and the Foundation are accountable, how their finances are available for public view, and that full public disclosure needs to be a matter of fact going forward.
