Raceland 2017

Featured Replies

What does Raceland need to do to improve in 2017? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

The Rams lose a lot of offensive production and their two best linemen.

Gone are QB Nathaniel Davidson (3000 yds, 27 TD passes), RB Bailey Walker (1470 yds, 17 TDs), WR John Cherry (1163 yds, 10 TDs), and linemen Issac Wallace (walking on at Marshall) and Jerome Hall.

That's a lot of talent walking out the door, but the cupboard isn't bare by any stretch.

RB Judd Adkins has breakout star potential. WR Cam Webb(960 yds, 7 TDs) returns after playing the Robin to Cherry's Batman. A solid group of offensive linemen returns, led by Justin Fairchild and Jake Dixon.

The biggest question mark, of course, is QB. It appears that Dalton Adkins, last year's starting QB at Boyd County, has transferred to Raceland. Maybe he's the answer?

They'll have their hands full again with a loaded Paintsville squad in the district.

I honestly haven't heard a lot as of now on my Ramblers. As DMC said, a lot of talent / leadership has graduated so just by that fact and the positions left open I don't look for Raceland to be as good or as experienced as in years past.

Raceland imo could be a good rushing / power and speed rushing team in 2017. One unproven kid that imo could become a factor is Jr. Hunter Lacks, who comes from the same bloodline at Raceland that has brought star football players / athletes as his Grandfather Ken (60's), Great Uncle Keith (70's), Hunter's Father Mike (80s). Also a couple of Aunts and a Sister that were standout Athletes in girls athletics at Raceland.

Hunter has had the injury bug bite him in each of his first two varsity seasons and playing time has been limited. An exceptional athlete, Lacks may possibly help fill the voids from graduation for the Rams this season, providing he plays or decides to concentrate on baseball (has already drawn DI interest and as much potential in baseball as any I have seen at Raceland .......Ever) !

I am not sure, that could be the case. I have also heard thru the sometimes re liable, sometimes not "Ram Vine" :D that he may possibly be an option at WR :idunno:.

I dont expect Hunter to play football. Imo, i hate to lose him, but its the better decision looking at his future.

You may be right and I would understand why, should he decide not to play. I certainly hope that he does decide to play football. Yes, Lacks imo has an unlimited future in baseball ... I just believe that a h.s. kid should play all the sports they can and that it actually helps them in all sports by being versatile. Lacks in jmo could be a big help to Coach Salmons, especially in replacing the heavy 2016 graduation losses on offense.

Can anyone comment on any players that may step up for the Rams this season ....positions, Defensive / Offensive Schemes ?

C'mon Ram fans, step it up already !! :D

The Paintsville games will be fun to pay attention to.

Can the Rams find a passing game to go with what should be a loaded running game?

Black throws the ball really well. But has had an issue performing on Friday nights. I think its a mental thing though. His ability is absolutely incredible as an athelete. Very quick footed and has huge potential if he will stay in the pocket. But he hasnt had alot of reps with a starting offense or the chance to have his confidence boosted by alot of reps with starting OL and WR. Imo, he gives you the besr option just based on his skill set. But, Adkins has a year of varsity experience and leadership at QB is key. Either way its going to be a learning process with Growing pains for eother kid. But i have faith in Hoof at thr QB coach. He made Nathaniel a completely different QB from his Jr to Sr year. Potential is in the locker room to be very good this year. Just goina have to weather the storm for the first few weeks imo.

Calling All RAMS FANS !

I know that SC88 & I aren't the only ones on bgp .....unless we've had a mass exit. :scared:

Time to go is getting closer, lets hear some comments, opinions ....anything from y'all. I ain't getting any younger or healthier. I can't do it all :lol2: !

No expert on the Rams but know they will have another good team. Excited Ashland plays Saturday night so I can go watch (Scout) you all on Friday against Lawerence County. Good Luck this year except for the 2nd game against my Tomcat's. We owe you for last season.

Guess I won't be their then!! LOL

I will try to cover all that I can that has been mentioned. Lacks will play football should be healthy and released next week. Dalton Adkins will play WR and will be very good. Damon Black will be QB and will be fine. He can really sling it and he can run. Judd should be a star. I think people will be a little surprised that we lost all we did and will still be very talented. Over 60 kids on the roster so the numbers are still there and we will be just fine!
