Elizabethtown Panthers - 2016 Grade

Featured Replies

C+

Panthers were 7-3 and averaged 35 points on offense during their regular season this past year (they had an undefeated regular season in 2015). Their schedule didn't see much change from '15 to '16, although a couple of their competitors had notably better seasons last year. Still, not the most challenging of schedules out there.

E-Town's best game of the season was likely their season ending 21-14 loss to the 3A runner-up Central Yellow Jackets.

Do you agree with a C+ for Elizabethtown? What grade do you give the Panthers?

I'd give Etown an A plus based on preseason expectations and the fact several people thought Adair would roll Etown.

Then they pushed Central to the max.

Coach Mark Brown said that was one of, if not the, most surprising and fulfilling seasons he has had ever as a coach.

People forget how much production Etown graduated in 16.

I think a C is too low. Gotta remember that Etown was starting almost all juniors on both sides of the ball. Only 3 senior starters and one of them was hurt a large portion of the year. As Nathaniel said, Adair was picked as the team to beat and Etown rolled them. They started off the season a little rough but once Coach Brown and his staff got them to gel they put it all together and were a couple of plays away from playing at WKU. Gotta remember that these kids had almost no game experience because of the heavy senior class that preceded them. I'd give them a B+

I was unaware of the situation with the juniors...in which case I'd knock their score up to at least a B, maybe a B+.

Is your grading based upon how a team did compared to expectations going into the season or soley how the season went? IE Team A was expected to have the best season ever with a state championship but lost 1 in the reg season and was state runner up. According to expectations that would probably be a C or D but not considering expectations that would probably be B+ or A-.

My attempt (which is admittedly rudimentary) is to take expectations into account.

So a little bit of both I believe.

Would love to see your take on Pleasure Ridge Park. Their schedules in 15 and 16 were brutal but I think they are a consistent 6A Top 10 team despite their number of losses.

8th grade team for Etown won state championship in 2016. Talent in the pipeline.

Yes and the class before them, upcoming Sophomore's went to the final 4 the year before. The future is bright for the Panthers.

I had forgot that, thats right.

Dang.... A C+ for a young team that reached the Semi's and only lost by a TD?

I was thinking a B+... probably nothing less than a solid B

See post #4 :D

E'town was definitely a year ahead of schedule.

Started rough (but expected due to no experience and little relative size), but knocked off Adair and Caldwell, two teams which entered season with far loftier expectations.

And Panthers were oh-so close of beating Louisville Central on the road.

If people are looking ONLY at records to base a team's success, then those people do NOT need to be a part of this conversation ... because there is far, far more to it than that.

Depending on where you are and who you play, .500 for example is a good year.

Mark Brown, and his players, deserved a lot of kudos for last season.

That being said, now this season they need to be able to jump off that springboard they built last season.
