I've spent a lot of time looking at this...it is the Tornado outbreak from the early 70's when Zanesville got leveled.

Where are these and what is there cool connection.

 

I was at Appomatox Courthouse last summer. Virginia has a different way of naming their county seat. The county seat is given the county name and add to it the word Courthouse. In other words, it refers to the town not the building. However, there is a building called the courthouse in the town.

 

Any way, the first pic of the larger building is the courthouse within the town of Appomattox Courthouse. The second pic is of the home where Lee and Grant met to discuss the terms of surrender and where the signing took place. This was Grant's finest hour. Oh that he had lived longer to see guide the proceedings following the Civil War.

 

This was a very cool place to visit. There was a very knowledgeable tour guide who was a great story teller. You could feel the drama that occurred there in those few days.

Yep. I was there. Not perched from my usual observing spot, though.

It's a little hard to see but the two strong F-5's that devastated Brandenburg and Xenia are #47 and #37 , respectively. There was 148 tornadoes total, seven F-5's. Just incredible.

After the second battle there he moved the family to Appomattox to "get away" from the war. The joke is that the war started in his back yard and ended in his parlor.

That is amazing! History is stranger than fiction. My son sitting here just said that the tour guide mentioned the connection to Manassas in his monologue.

Excellent. I absolutely love that image. Sunset on Mars from the Gustav crater. Just awesome.
