Do X and T play national powers.

The powerful Cincy teams have been playing nationally ranked teams from Fla., Texas, Cal., and some other states. Have our 2 favorite Lou. teams played such competition? If they have, how have they fared? If not, why not?

Trinity and X are decent teams, but not on the level of a Hoover (AL) High, or Byrnes SC. IMO, those two teams would be embarrassed by a top 5 HS program.

I think my comparison is aimed more towards the Cincy teams. Elder, St X, Moeller, Colerain etc.

Trinity has played a number of "out of state powers" over the years. I'd say the Rocks have done less than great but OK. They got stomped pretty good by Ben Davis back in the 90s. I think the Rocks are 1-1 against Elder. Although the year the Rocks defeated Elder the Panthers went on to win their first ever Ohio state championship. The rocks finished that year ranked #4 in the USAToday and Elder was maybe #11. In 2003 the Rocks played their first game against MBA and while the Rocks came into that game as the #3 team in the country according to the USAToday the Big Red was the team to have a top 25 (13 or 14) at the end of the season. I'm sure there are other examples. I would have to say that Trinity not only plays a number of "national powers", they have also spent plenty of time being a "national power" over the years finishing in the USAToday top 25 several times.

Elder is 3-3-2 against St. X. Last game in 1962

Elder is 1-1 against Trinity winning in 1998, losing in 2002

BTW Elder is 0-1 against Male( 1938 )

0-4 against Flaget and 2-0 agsinst Desales source http://www.ehsports.com

Moeller is 1-1 against St X

Moeler is 1-0 aginst both Male and Trinity source http://www.Moeller.org gridiron guide

Cinti St X 4-7 against Louisville St X last game in 1997 source http://www.stxavier.org

BTW Cincy St X is 0-1 against XU freshmen (1930) team. Imagine if that conversation came up today as a real game!

Gotta realize that T and X don't have too many openings to schedule as many big teams as the two headed monster up north. T plays seven district games, and a game against X. That leaves only 2 spots and sometimes you can't get the schedule done. Now next year, with smaller districts that leaves more open dates. Another thing is the later starting date. Other states start later than KY and the new date allows a better opportunity to schedule bigger games.

Wasn't the Dayton team Trinity beat a couple years ago ranked?

Part of the reason that the GCL schools (Moeller, St.X, Elder, LaSalle) only have 3 league games they must play. That leaves them the freedom, or the scrambling depending on how you look at it, to schedule 7 other games.

With the move to smaller districts Trinity and St. X will have even more opportunities to play that type of competition.

Dayton Chaminade is a Division 3 team( division 1 is the biggest) and had some success at the league and Ohio playoff level.

As to the Ohio schools, they have a tough time finding instate opponents to play them in the playoff system scenario. If you don't thing you can beat the team, you don't schedule them because you could miss the playoffs.

Yes, they were ranked primarily because of some D1 talent. Javon Ringer (Michigan State) of course, but they also had a DB/WR that had committed to ND (later signed with Michigan I think). Ringer was the most elusive back I've seen play in the state of Kentucky.

X and T have both been playing a team with multiple national titles for years...
