allsport71 Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 For the first time in Cooper softball history the Jags travel to the Bird cage and get the win, I realize this is not the Highlands team from the last few years but Highlands is still a well coached top notch program in the ninth region. Haley Nicholas hit a dinger over the left center field wall that was probably at least 225 ft. A big thanks to The entire staff at Highlands who had the filed looking great, that place is amazing. Very impressed with the young lady playing short stop for the Birds, she has has awesome range. Good to see the Lawnboy roaming the Bird cage as well, thought he would be passing out those darn class A T shorts, ha. Best of luck to Highlands. The Jags are off until Thursday as Boone County travels to Longbranch road for a district game and onto the Bulldog bash Friday night at Meiken field.
RCC9 Posted May 2, 2017 Posted May 2, 2017 She mashed that homerun!! Cooper played a great game tonight!

Had to bring @RCC9 some swag, you know he is a big fan of the All A. :lol2: On to the game.......I'll say it again, if you have not had the pleasure of seeing Cooper Fr. SS Kayari Suganuma play the game, you are missing out BIGTIME!!! Without question the smartest, most fundamentally sound player in NKY in quite some time. Perfect placement on her hitting, runs the bases like a professional, and just so smooth on defense. The last out of the game she goes deep in the 6-hole, back hands a ball on one knee, gets up and fires a seed to 1st for the out......not many kids come close to making this play. However, the play that impressed me the most was a pop-fly to just near the grass 20 feet from the rightfield line, 2nd basemen caught it, but Kayari was right behind her when she made the catch. :ylsuper: Cooper's Hailey Nicholas homerun was an ABSOLUTE BOMB!!!!!! That thing was level with the scoreboard when it entered the woods WELL beyond the 210 foot fence.....that dong rivaled a Shelby Graybill shot.
RocketsDad Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 I keep hearing about this kid and how fast and smooth she is as a fielder. Really looking forward to seeing her play as we happen to have several freshmen and Sophomores in the Louisville area who are extremely fast and smooth as middle infielders and outfielders. Love watching great talent!

Love watching great talent! Let me attest. I have traveled all over the country with my daughter, seeing kids play at a VERY high level. I have seen many of the best players in the state. My daughter was one of the best defensive SS in the state last year. I'm telling you, this kid is VERY good and Very fun to watch and she's only a freshman. She is extremely skilled and has the instincts of an elite player. She has all the tools. She is as good as advertised. And just an outstanding kid too.

I in no way suggested she wasn't as good as advertised, but know there is great talent all over the state and certainly a boatload in Jefferson County area. Looking forward to seeing her play. What travel team does she play with for this coming season?

What travel team does she play with for this coming season? I believe Kaos, but I may be wrong. Keep in mind, she's only been in the states a little over a year and only will be here for one more. I think Cooper only signed her for a three year deal! Lol! Actually the story I got is her dad works for Toyota and is here for a 3 year stint. Others may have more on that. Heck, maybe she'll end up at Scott Co! I can tell you last year we played almost all the good teams in KY and i didn't see anyone with her skills defensively.

I think we have played Kaos but don't recall her which means absolutely nothing as I am hearing more about her now. Our travel team is playing in Cleveland, Colorado, Atlanta and St. Louis so hopefully I can see her there as it doesn't appear that her high school team played anyone in Jefferson County last year or this year. Would love to see the kid play.
allsport71 Posted May 3, 2017 Author Posted May 3, 2017 Yes she plays for Kaos along with two other Cooper players. One of the most humble young ladies you will ever meet.

Where are they playing this Summer? Would like to catch up and watch this kid. Again, I am sure she is very good but the talent in Jefferson County in the Freshmen and Sophomore class happens to be really, really good, so would like to see her play.

You keep saying I'm sure she is good "but". I get it. I have seen some of the best in the state. I have seen some of the best in the country. I'm telling you she is very good, regardless how good the Jefferson Co kids are. You tell me who the best SS is in Jefferson co and I've probably seen them. I'll tell you how this young lady compares. I saw the SS from Woodford last year that went to UL. I saw the SS from Davies that went to UK. We have a ss in NKY that is committed to UK. We played just about every top team (or saw them play) last year and this kid is as good defensively as anyone I saw and only a freshman. I remember reading conversations last year that you were in that you challenge the validity of others. You make it sound like you would like to see them play but them question who and where they play and always insinuate that others are better. I have no reason to back this kid. I coach Highlands and they just kicked our tails. I know talent and she has got a ton!!! Yes, she is that good and I would put her up against anyone I've seen in the state defensively. It's okay that there are other really good players outside of Jefferson co. If you want to tell me who the kids are that you are talking about and who they play for, I may know them or have seen them. I can give you a straight up comparison. Edited May 3, 2017 by RCC9
Remmac2 Posted May 3, 2017 Posted May 3, 2017 Wow, that poor girl playing SS for HHS fell off the radar in a hurry, lol. I believe these two teams may have some of the best young talent in NKY. This game was probably a good preview of that............

Allie Skaggs, SS/CF Ballard comes to mind immediately. Madison McCoy, 2nd base/CF Male, Maggie Metzger/CF/SS Assumption, Allie Puckett SS Sacred Heart, Teddy Nunn SS Eastern and I know I am probably overlooking someone from Butler, Holy Cross, Bullitt East, or Mercy, all of which are ranked in the top 20. Again, I want to see the kid play before I lay down the title of "best young SS/player in the state". If that is a crime, then sue me!
