The project will not overwhelm the site or the waterfront; specifically:

 

The expansion will be built completely on the existing site and will not protrude into the surrounding streets or water.

 

The expansion will provide a stunning waterfront view corridor from the stadium seats east into the bay.

 

The expansion is designed to operate in harmony with the Mahaffey Theater, the Dalí, Saturday Morning Market and Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg circuit.

 

The project will provide the public with an expanded multi-use venue for sporting events, festivals and concerts, while allowing for the long term success of the Rowdies.

It's a renovation, not a tear down and rebuild. They estimate it will cost between 80 and 100 million dollars and take 18 months to complete.

Kudos to them and I believe the NFL should do the same. The NFL makes so much money that the league should simply pay for a new stadium every year and that would put them on building a stadium for every team every 32 years which seems to be the lifespan as it is for a stadium.

While no tax money is involved, St. Petersburg's city charter dictates that all waterfront construction must be approved by the voters of St. Pete. They had a referendum on it, yesterday.
