March 10, 20179 yr Your hate for Votto is one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. No logic or reason. Guy is going to be a HOFer and put up HISTORICALLY good numbers in the second half last year. It's stupid and proves no value to any of these threads.
March 10, 20179 yr By position who's got each job locked up and who's fighting for the others 1B - Votto 2B - Peraza SS - Cozart 3B - Suarez RF - Schebler for now CF - Hamilton LF - Duvall C - Meso/Barnhart The rotation battle is very murky still.
March 11, 20179 yr Is Meso ever gonna get back to pre injury? I have doubts, lots of them. Hes catching Bronson tomorrow. We'll find out a lot in the next few weeks.
March 11, 20179 yr There has been a lot of discussion about Mesoraco this offseason, and understandably so. Here are his career numbers. Keep in mind that he will turn 29 in June '17. 2011: 18 games, .226 OBP, 2 HR, 6 RBI & 3 doubles in 50 at bats. 2012: 54 games, .288 OBP, 5 HR, 14 RBI & 8 doubles in 165 AB's 2013: 103 games, .287 OBP, 9 HR, 42 RBI & 13 doubles in 323 AB's 2014: 114 games, .359 OBP, 25 HR, 80 RBI & 25 doubles in 383 AB's In 2015 & 2016, he played a total of 39 games (23 & 16 respectively); amassing 2 doubles, 1 triple, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB (in 2015) and 1 caught stealing (in 2016). OBP was .275 & .218, respectively. The Reds experimented with moving Mesoraco to left field and it didn't work, partly because he wasn't healthy at the time. I don't know whether he'll catch more than 100 games, but this team could use another hitter with a .359 OBP, 25 HR & 80 RBI's.
March 11, 20179 yr For the record, here is Mesoraco's contract: 4 year, $28 million. 2016: $5,025,000 [Last Season] 2017: $7,325,000 [This Season] 2018: $13,125,000 2019: Free Agent
March 11, 20179 yr By position who's got each job locked up and who's fighting for the others 1B - Votto 2B - Peraza SS - Cozart 3B - Suarez RF - Schebler for now CF - Hamilton LF - Duvall C - Meso/Barnhart I agree with your lineup. It's worth noting that Cozart may still get traded, which would open up a spot for Dilson Herrera (Reds acquired Herrera from the Mets for Jay Bruce). Herrera projects more as a 2nd baseman, which may move Peraza to shortstop. I'm curious to see what the Reds do there, if/when Cozart gets dealt.
March 12, 20179 yr I have never understood the love for Mesoraco. He only had 1 good year. I don't think he will ever produce like that again. He didn't hit that great in the minors either.
March 13, 20179 yr Not many catchers come into the league at 23, 24 and hit like studs. Usually they get better in their late 20's, early 30's. Its a shame he has been injured because he may never reach what would have been his peak. 2 years off is hard.
