2017-2018 5th Region

Recommended Posts

What does AC have coming back? I would have to say Taylor County...they are the defending champs. John Hardin will be top heavy with Pearson and Witherspoon; but I don't know what will develop below them. North is losing quite a bit. Don't sleep on Etown. They will have a hardened group of seniors that have taken their lumps as sophs and jr's. I don't know much about the rest of the region unfortunately.

Throw LaRue County into the mix. Younger Goode had a monster postseason. Also have King, Cobb and might get Harris back. And isn't Embree just a junior?

Don't know if LaRue would win it all, but they have some nice pieces to keep them from falling far, especially with Adair and North taking heavy, heavy graduation losses.

Assuming everyone returns Adair would have Corey Melton who will be a senior back as the only starter. Anthony Payne, and Landon Carter were the 7th and 8th men this season and will be juniors.

John, E'town and LaRue all figure to be good. Marion has talent coming back, but also has key losses. Green figures to be better. Washington Co. is on an uptick, and could have a good opportunity at a district title since everybody else in the 19th will be young. Who knows who will show up at Taylor?

I'm gonna say John is the early favorite for next year.

This is true, and I for one underestimated the role players on that team. But I will say Oliver relieved a lot of pressure by handling the ball and bringing it up the court especially from what I saw in the region tournament.

1.) John Hardin

2.) Taylor County

3.) Elizabethtown

4.) LaRue County

5.) Marion County

6.) Central Hardin

7.) Bardstown

8.) North Hardin

Washington County on the other list at 5 was surprising to see.

1.) Mickey Pearson

2.) TreVon Smith

3.) Mark Goode

4.) Darius Harding

5.) Jacob Hobbs

6.) Anthony Witherspoon

But you also have to consider some transfers moving around as well. Serious rumors already of kids leaving one school to another withi know the region.

If you think that's the top 5 players-- I have to disagree.. I would have to throw Roger McFarlane in that mix as a top 5 player. Without a doubt, Pearson is the best player in region!!!

Roger is definitely top 5 IMO...Hey what are you hearing for returning players at North. They are always deep and talented. Their JV was absolutely killing people for a stretch.

Completely forgot Roger, he is #2 in my opinion. Not sure how I forgot about him.

North Hardin JV was loaded this season they were to physical for most JV teams.

There are some serious rumors out there floating around. John and North Hardin typically gets one or two military transfers per year so you gotta see how that goes.

Oliver is the heart and soul. He can not be replaced, but his little brother will be a freshman next year and is considered by most to be the better athlete. I think that he is more interested in football than basketball right now, but that could change.

There is also a lot of hope that Q' Goodin's brother will develop an interest in basketball. He will be a sophomore.
