Taylor County 64 Bardstown 61 (5th Region Quarterfinals)

Recommended Posts

Bardstown was saddled with foul trouble with key seniors Santrel Farmer, Kel Livers and TreJan Walls all game. Lots of charges called in this game, including Farmer's 5th foul, which came with 19.6 left and the Tigers down 62-61.

Taylor led by as many as 10 in the first half, but Bardstown rallied back and led 56-49 with 5:12 left to play in the game, forcing a TC timeout. Cardinals finished the game on a 15-5 run. Tigers couldn't stop the penetration by Oliver and Irvin when they needed to.

Taylor also outrebounded Bardstown, it seems (I don't have official stats), and the Tigers struggled at the FT line at 7-of-15. They missed two key front ends of one-and-ones in the final 50 seconds.

12th Region refs?

yep 12th region refs

Bardstown is a veteran team with kids who have been in big-game situations before. They didn't adjust when they needed to.

If they hit their FTs and rebound better and stop the penetration, they win by 10, fouls or otherwise. Can't totally blame it on the 12th Region crew.

I'm not blaming it on the 12th Region crew. I just know from experience that they are more apt to call a charge than a block.

I will say that is very different from 5th Region norm. And, I had not seen that to this point through the 7 prior games I've seen 12th Region stripes call (girls and boys) this week. I'm also going to say that this particular game had about half as many charges called as I've seen all year in the 5th. Ours is a very physical region.

Until tonight, it seemed like the 12th Region point of emphasis was on palming. Been at least a baker's dozen of those in the girls' games (not so much in the boys).

Tony Gray called none of the charges to my recollection, but I don't usually keep mental track of such things, so I could be wrong. I can't say that any of the charges were incorrect calls, either.

I agree Schue, I didn't see much in the way of ref issues in this game. This was baffling to me. One, I have never seen Bardstown play that poor of defense, but more striking is I think Coach Boo let his pride get in his way. Way too much man defense against TC's penetration. For those not in attendance, it looked liked TC probably attempted 10 jump shots the entire game. They shot layups all night long. Motion lay-ups and transition penetration.

I WISH we could have had Tony Gray at some of our games this year. We didn't have him as a referee one time this season. We never had Kyle Bottom either. I think those two are two of the best in the 12th.
