February 21, 20179 yr Effective today, February 21st, Citizen's Bank of Northern Kentucky, founded and operated by by local Campbell County bankers will become United Bank. United has many holdings across the state. In my opinion Citizen's, a spinoff of old Kentucky Enterprise Federal (I think), was created for the sole purpose of someday being bought out and making the partners wealthy. I'm curious if that is what happened here, and if the present administration running Citizen's will remain on, or take the Golden Parachute. With all of this said, Citizen's Bank has been a fantastic corporate citizen to all of the area schools. We certainly hope that United will adopt that same one-on-one relationship that many of us enjoyed with Citizen's.

February 21, 20179 yr I always thought Citizens was founded by a bunch of local bankers that got tired of the corporate takeovers and the rules and regulations. Lots of good fellows at Citizens. When I got my first loan I went to 2 bigger banks. One wanted a consigner one wanted collateral. Went to KY enterprise chatted about softball for 15 minutes and my guy asked me if I wanted cash or a check. Next loan, told me he just needed to do a drive by appraisal. No need to spend the money on a appraisal. As they kept on getting bought out I remember going to see my guy again and he told me his hands we tied. Had to go through all of the processes. Pulled a note out of my file that showed where he had the power to give me a loan at will when it was a smaller bank. Those days are long gone.

February 21, 20179 yr Kentucky Enterprise Federal was taken over by Fifth Third Bank years ago. My wife used to work at KEF.
February 21, 20179 yr I believe Citizens Bank was formed by the former executives of the old Newport National Bank. Jim Simpson was one of the founders. They sold Newport National Bank to First National Bank of Cincinnati/Star Bank/US Bank, waited for their non-complete to expire and started Citizens Bank. This is strictly a name change for Citizens - they were bought by Farmers Bank out of Frankfort years ago (Farmers had continued to operate their various acquisitions under their existing names - similar to how PNC continued to operate as Central Trust locally for several years).
February 21, 20179 yr Wasn't there a fort Thomas/Bellevue Bank prior to that as well? Ft. Thomas Bellevue Bank became Liberty that became Bank One, that became Chase. A little confusing because Ft. Thomas Bellevue Bank had 2 Ft. Thomas locations. They vacated one of the sites (the one in the middle of Ft. Thomas on Ft. Thomas Avenue) and Citizens bought the building.
