QB 6'3 210 pounds Matt Shearer Simon Kenton Class of 2018

Shearer threw for 1338 yards passing 13 tds and 101 yards rushing 3 tds as a backup. With Sam Murray and Fisher Hayden returning at receiver it is going to be a fun year for SK.

This one will sting for Highlands for a few years. Matt will be a great QB over the next couple of years IMO.

He only has one season left. He is a junior right now. But should have a big year next season.

He only has one year left. But Matt left HHS after only a couple weeks of summer practice. I know the HHS coaches were upset he left. Wouldn't have surprised me if he started last year as a junior.

Gotcha. Didn't know that.

Not familiar with the young man: so he left HHS after a few summer practices before his Frosh Year?

Yes. Went to HIghlands Middle then practiced for a couple weeks in the summer at HHS and moved to SK. According to an hhs guy I know he would have been the starter that year and then probably last year had he not moved to live with a different parent.

I found this from a Freshman thread 3 years ago.

It's actually Danny Shearer's son who played LB at Georgetown College back in the 80's. His son Matt was at Highlands last year and transferred to Simon moving in with his Mother who lives a Crow's fly from SK. Matt was my QB last year in the FTJFL and did a very nice job. Why the Transfer? Some people say it was for personal reasons and others say he wanted to play QB at HHS and that wasn't going to happen this year. I hope Matthew the best of luck.....

All I can say is what I was told from hhs people who were upset he left and wished he'd had stayed... especially with how early in the summer he left... clearly before any decision about a QB could have been decided.

Doesn't really matter anymore. Good luck to the kid... by all accounts he's a good one... on and off the field.

Shearer has a cannon of a arm and will have a huge year.

I was told by a family member of his the HHS coaches told him he'd never play QB there. That was the reason he went to SK.

Shearer is now 6'4 216 pounds and has a offer from Morehead State. He finished 2nd in the qb competition at CAL.

He was a shining star at QB in the FTJRFL and had to share snaps with Schoellman and Brady Walz one yr with yhe Red team. I'd have to say he has had the best progression Of the 3 taking nothing away from the other 2 boys.
