20th District Tournament Format Change

Featured Replies

Beginning next season, the 20th District boys basketball tournament will be going back to a blind draw. It has been seeded for the last several years. From my understanding it is just on the boys side and does not affect the girls tournament.

This was on a 3-1 vote with Campbellsville, Marion Co, and Adair Co. voting in favor of the change. Taylor Co. voted to keep it the same (seeded).

Wow, I hate all blind draws for district tournament.

Any given reasons? Possible that Adair, Campbellsville, and Marion aren't going to play Taylor during the regular season?

Only reason I would know of would be that the others are tired of Taylor's shenanigans with all the "rent a player" going on.

Here's a fun fact: Adair County is coached by Deron Breeze who in the 08-09 season coached in the 39th District at Bracken County. We all know about the seed/draw debate there.

Trend-setters.

Wonder if Taylor Co will be as childish as Bracken and Mason County and "take their ball" and go home!

Lol

Long live the Blind Draw

I do too, but I get where the other three schools are coming from in this case.

My guess is the three schools who voted to draw were hoping that Adair and Taylor would play and have Adair beat Taylor in the first round to sort of punish them?

Doesn't apply to this year. Goes into effect next year.

Takes away the meaning of regular season games even more now

I would hate the blind draw as a fan, player and coach.

Just came across an interesting side note: I believe the 20th is the longest current running district without a change in make-up. In 1970-71 Marion County was formed...to join Campbellsville, Taylor County and Adair County. One would think that should make for some great rivalries.

During that time period:

District titles:

Taylor County 18

Campbellsville 13

Adair County 8

Marion County 7

5th Region titles:

Taylor County 6

Adair County 3

Marion County 3

Campbellsville 1

It seems the move was made so that the other three schools wouldn't have to play Taylor in the regular season.
