I'm feeling especially salty about this today. Yesterday at Kroger a panhandler approached me as I was coming out and asked me to help them get something to eat. I reached in my bad and offered them some chips. They told me to go to ...

I would've called the cops on him at that point.

Sounds like then the job needs to be made more attractive so that there are a ton of able bodied welfare recipients or out of work white collar folks lining up for the jobs. A company issue.

Not a company issue at all. Nice try.

It has to be, you said yourself you cant get people to do the job. If people wont do the job at the wage and benefit rate your company wants, then the company has to change to get the employees they need, or continue with less workers. Its very simple.

No, it doesn't. And it isn't as simple as you would like to assume. I'd go into expansive detail, but it would be wasted on you. You try to reduce everything to conform to your limited understanding. But where I work, wages are double figures per hour, & the benefits are extraordinary. If you'd like, I can hook you up with an interview.

Obviously they are not enough, you cant get people to take the job.

You start punishing people/businesses for hiring illegals, that mess stops pretty quick.

But then the issue arises of having people to do those jobs, and I think we all know a person or two who is too lazy to work, regardless of partisanship.

When there is a surplus of jobs that is when government benefits faucet get's shut off. But I agree with everything you said. Our Social Security Disability process is so filled with fraud.

I guess it will be interesting to see what happens. Those jobs exist today, and other low wage, crappy wage jobs exist that are really tough to fill and keep filled. I guess though, you won't believe me...Because I am...What??? A liberal?

Don't we also have one of the highest unemployment rates for teenagers in a long time ?

And that has what to do with what I've said, except they aren't applying for those jobs either.

I'm not trying to argue with you but if a position has high turnover it is either by company design or the company doesn't compensate enough compared to other jobs those same people qualify for , and those other jobs may not even be in the same industry.

My point being there are plenty of teenagers who can work. Let's quit talking about free college and let them work for their tuition. Most of these lower paying jobs were filled by HS and college kids.

Being a housekeeper is a brutal job. You are expected to turn 10-14 rooms in a 8 hour shift (depends upon occupancy and # of staff). You kneel, you lift mattresses, you deal with puke, crap, trashed rooms. Industry wide it's a difficult position to fill. People don't want to work that hard for any amount of money. It's not an option to just let rooms not turn, guests expect clean rooms. It's just a really rough job. And it's not one wages alone can fix. And where I work, I do feel wages are not the issue. It's just a matter of people not wanting to work that hard.

They aren't applying. What do we do about that? The people on welfare? Not applying. People in unemployment? Not applying. People losing benefits, not applying.

There are a lot of physically demanding jobs that have relatively low turnover. Like I said it could be by company design if you do not have trouble filling the positions. But every job has an equilibrium where salary meets job demands.

An example of company design would be some sales positions based off commision. By design these companies want high turnover because if you aren't selling , you can't survive. But because of the potential high earnings they can always fill the role.

College college college, gotta focus on that college.
