Conner was up for most of the game, going into the third quarter, there were about three times down the floor no offense was ran however a three ball was jacked up as the first play on offense. I don't understand this type of play. Yes there are girls on the team who can shoot for sure but to not run any kind of offense seems like bad habits forming. Conner ends up winning by 15 and was up by as much as 20. I would just like to see the girls be smarter on offense, maybe that's were the youth everyone talks about comes in?

That's something that needs to be fixed now otherwise it may hurt them during tournament time.

Nothing about youth is an excuse anymore regarding bombing up 3's. The coach allows it, so the players are going to continue to shoot them.

It's "the way they play." I doubt it's fixed and think it will hurt them come tournament time. A team like Highlands will force misses, be more patient and efficient on offense, and end up beating Conner going away.

13 and 3 I believe and all you guys can do is criticize. Certainly glad there are so many great basketball minds out there. The game gets played in a lot of different ways. I try to enjoy all of them.

I could care less how they play. Some teams live or die with the three ball. Usually in big games against equal competition they die.

The cougars are starting to use Duncan more, if keep it up they have a good shot of coming out of the 9th.

I agree, keeping Duncan involved will only benefit the team.

Going by most of the comments in threads this year, I would have assumed Conner was having a terrible season. However like it or not when a team has only lost 3 games, and those 3 games were to 3 of the better teams in the whole state. Then obviously a coach must be doing more things right than wrong.

 

You can find things wrong with even the number 1 ranked team in the state and find things they need to get better at or have a different opinion on a strategy their coach uses. It doesn't mean their strategy is wrong, because obviously their strategy got them the record they have, while the coaching strategies in the stands have contributed to zero wins. It seems to me some are more interested in complaining, rather than realizing they must be doing more things right than wrong to have the record that they have. I don't know Conner's history but I would bet this is one of the best starts if not the best start Conner's girl program has ever had and that is with a very young team from what I have heard. Yet as I have said, you would never know it based of many of the comments in games they have won. Sometimes its good to enjoy the ride, rather than look for ditches to drive over.

The concern's people voice about the program are valid IMO. Conner is VERY talented and capable of winning games through a variety of strategies. They are certainly talented enough to win the 9th region in the next 2-3 years and play in the state tournament.

 

However, they seem to rely a single offensive strategy, or at the very least not employ different strategies when opponents/game situations call for it.

 

The better programs will combine talent, scouting, and coaching to disrupt Conner's offense and force them to make adjustments and/or be more efficient on offense (not waste possessions).

 

If Conner doesn't commit to making adjustments they may never reach their potential - which would be a shame.
