Songs You Love That You Somehow Overlooked and Only Discovered Much Later On

Featured Replies

In this music thread I'm looking to hear from you about songs that you love now but somehow overlooked when they were first released.

I'll start with an example. I love 80's music but was never a huge Scorpions fan. They were good but not a band I paid much attention to. By 1990, I felt music had begun to decline and I tuned out a lot of new music and listened almost exclusively to classic rock from the sixties, seventies, and eighties. As a result, I missed out on a Scorpions tune that I love now. I still play it all the time. It was an important and very relevant tune in 1990(and for that matter, still is today). As a music aficionado ,I can't believe I missed this tune in 1990.

Been a FM fan for a long time but didn't know of Buckingham/Nicks until they joined the band. Only a few years ago did I go back and find this beautiful little treasure of a song by Lindsey and Stevie before they joined the Mac. What a beautiful, but haunting song!!! I think you'll agree.

I was late to the World Party party and until I took the time to stop and listen I thought that they were a "World Music" type outfit simply by their name, and then came to find that their tunes were solidly consistent with classic Brit pop/rock stuff like the Beatles and the Stones.

Another tune that I must have slept through in the eighties and discovered years later.

I would never have heard of this one had I not watched Napoleon Dynamite.

I always found it interesting that Alphaville, Bob Dylan, and Rod Stewart all had songs called "Forever Young", and Rod's lyrics seemed to have been big time inspired by Bob's.

Released in November of 1990, Cinderella's "Heartbreak Station" was the last of 3 Platinum selling offerings by the boys from Philly. "Heartbreak Station", "Shelter Me", & "The More Things Change" were all released as singles, and I only recently (like a month ago) listened to the other songs that weren't released as singles....really digging all of them.

Lead guitarist/vocalist, Tom Kiefer, does and excellent job with infusing the Blues in these songs on this record, and is damn good with the slide guitar. It's solid rock-n-roll with blues and country influences.

Really like this number.....

In the early part of the 2000's I kept hearing the name Devendra Banhart, but had no idea what he was about other than that he looked like a Charles Manson hippy dude, and eventually by 2007 my curiosity got the best of me and have found him to be nothing short of a musical genius with an original style distinctively all his own.

This song "Seahorse" was one of his many many tunes that I've fallen in love with, but this one sticks out from the first album of his that I bought that really caught my attention. I now have nearly his entire collection and often have days where nothing will satisfy but Devendra.

While this song may or may not initially catch your attention, after the slower trippy part, and then the hippy trippy jazzy part, it eventually breaks into a more straight forward rockin' tune.

Simply Brilliant.
