January 9, 20179 yr The first time I saw The Verve was with under 50 people at Bogarts on their first release "A Storm In Heaven" (because at the time Grunge was all the rage and no one was paying attention to them). At the time they only went by the name "Verve", but had to ultimately change it because of legal issues with Verve Records. ... And the 2nd time was on their fantastic 2nd release "A Northern Soul" at Lollapalooza's 2nd stage at Riverbend. They've never played Cincinnati again, so I had to catch them in Chicago for a sold out show on their 3rd and most popular release "Urban Hymns". They no doubt became super famous in England, but I just don't think that they ever got the complete attention and respect that they deserved here in the U.S. though everyone is familiar with the tune "Bittersweet Symphony".
January 9, 20179 yr Discovered "James" in Columbus at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD Festival and immediately fell in love with them. By the time they released their next album they were playing an afternoon mainstage spot at Lollapalooza, but the sleepy audience didn't seem much to care. Here again just like The Verve, James was mega in England, but never got over the hump here. Considering my musical tastes I sometimes feel like I was supposed to be born a Brit.

January 9, 20179 yr Irish dude Glen Hansard finally got some attention in the states on the success of the movie "Once", but still probably not enough, and we've certainly been missing out for years on his exciting live band The Frames.
January 9, 20179 yr Back in the early 80's rock radio played Australian band Angel City's - Marseilles but never bothered to follow that up with anything leaving them to vanish here into obscurity. Known internationally as the Angels they were a hugely loved exciting live act worldwide. Lead singer Doc Neeson died in 2014 from brain cancer at the age of 67 They've put out albums all these years and continue to do so with a replacement for Neeson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_py6WbMV1k
January 9, 20179 yr For those who have forgotten or have never heard it, here is Angel City's - Marseilles. The intro riff feels a little bit like AC/DC, which I believe is why we ever got to hear the song here in the states in the first place considering AC/DC's popularity at the time.
