If Feltner and Fort are out that is huge for the Titans. Both are shooting north of 40% from 3 on the season. Hopefully they can recover quickly from their injuries.

 

It was nice to see freshman Marcellus Vail step in and score 12 points. Between him and Davion McKnight, the Titans have some good young talent.

 

Turner, Feltner, and Fort combined for 15 points and Collins was still in control the whole game. I'm sure they would love to play again in the district tournament.

Wow people accuse me of being a homer on here. Tommy2tone--that was absolutely the worst Spencer has looked all year without a doubt. We missed at least 15 close in easy shots. Quit making excuses. What was ridiculous was how the Collins coaching staff and fans acted like Spencer County was playing dirty when one kid sprained his ankle and another kid got a head injury in the 4th quarter when a knee made contact on his jaw during a 50/50 ball. I was sitting five feet from the play. Both players were going for a ball and the Spencer County players knee hit him in the jaw. The Spencer County kid jumped up and tried to help the kid up. Just watched the film. Gather was yelling at the refs when the other kid sprained his ankle. How do you deliberately sprain a kids ankle? What happened was they weren't expecting a Spencer County team to come in there and give them a fight. Looking forward to the district tournament.

Dude, why you calling me out as a homer? I have nothing to do out there except be a fan. When gym was quiet, who yelled out at Gaither? I didn't say anything about dirty play. All I know is Collins was in complete control last night and that was without Turner.

Turner played. Spencer County actually did better when he was in the game. He played the whole first quarter. I was surprised how easily Spencer County got to the rim. We missed at least 15 gimme's.

They may have overlooked Spencer a little bit. But this game was never in doubt.

I want to clear up something that was said earlier in this thread. There was no 50/50 ball when Feltner's jaw was fractured. Spencer County had just scored to cut the lead from 10 points to 8 points. They pressed, and Collins broke the press and threw it over half court to Feltner. Had there been more time on the clock and the game still in doubt, Feltner had an opportunity to drive the ball and try to get fouled or score in transition. Because there was just several seconds left in the game, he pulled the ball back out. He picked up his dribble with around 5 seconds left and the Spencer County kids did not back off like most teams do and let the clock run out. Instead they came up and tried to foul him. He pivoted away from them to protect the ball and was bent over so they could not get to the ball. With 2 seconds left, a Spencer County kid came running in from his right side and tried to knock the ball away from him. In so doing, he hit Feltner in the side of the head with his knee and fractured his jaw. They did call a foul, but he was to hurt to shoot the free throws.

 

I don't think the Spencer kid was trying to hurt anyone. It was an accident. He apologized to Feltner when it happened. That being said, Spencer County was needlessly aggressive at that point in the game. Most of the time a team will back off when a kid pulls the ball back out with several seconds left on the clock and 8 points down. Coaches usually yell at their players to not foul in that circumstance. Yet, Spencer County did not back off and I did not hear the coach yelling for his players to back off. In my mind, that was the only thing about the play I did not like. They never should have been that aggressive with 2 seconds left. The coach should have been yelling for his kids to not foul.

 

Not only did Turner not play much because of the flu, but Feltner also had the flu, but was able to play. I mean no disrespect to Spencer County. They have a pretty decent team. However, I think a healthy Collins handles them in the 15 to 20 point range. That's not a knock on Spencer County. I just think Collins is very good when at full strength.

 

Unfortunately for Collins, both Feltner and Fort will be out 4 to 6 weeks. They probably won't be the same team without them.
