Corbin vs. Bell County

Featured Replies

The water"thing" is simply a sign of just how far this once powerful football program has fallen. Celebrating a home win over a lowly opponent like LCA(2 TD's called back by penalty or Corbin might be 0-4) with a water bath is a testament to Corbin's status now as a third tier program. The present incarnation of the Hounds would do well to compete against Lynn Camp, Williamsburg, North/South L., Whitley, maybe even Knox C. Hopefully, Corbin can once regain some degree of its glory-filled past. I can remember when the Hounds could compete with and punish any team in the state, regardless of class. Today's Hounds resort to a silly celebration over a hapless 1A team at home. Very sad.

Words are really easy to come by, but until you walk in any of these boys shoes, a win is a joyous thing!!!!!!!! They work ever so hard and seldom hear a good word from the coaches. At least they are hanging in there and giving it there best. They are young and will get better. Honestly give them a break and read the letter to the editor in last Thursdays Corbin Times, then maybe you will understand.

I like that pick. This year is similar to the 2004 year when we won up at Log Mountain with everyone picking Bell.

Personally I am having the heart/head dilema right now. My heart is tellin me that Corbin will win the game similar to how you have it. On the other hand, my head is tellin me Bell by about 3 tds as my initial pick indicates. Hopefully the heart will beat out my head in this prediction.

That would have been 2003 when Corbin beat Bell on Log Mtn. I felt that Corbin may have beaten Bell in the 2004 game if they had not been so injury ridden that game(Lawson & Ware both missed the game & Mills was nowhere near 100%), but that's part of being a really good team.... Plus Bell Co. had a great team that year.

Rather, this is garbage!

No I think it is closer to the truth than most Redhound fans would admit, but deep down inside where you don't talk about much they know its true.

The letter to the editor was terrible, when you have "supporters" driving wedges into the community like that, it is just another sign of just how far the Redhounds have fallen.

I can remember when Coach Powers and Coach Adams were there, there was more to being a Redhound than being on the team, it was about winning, and doing it right. Corbin like many other schools has become a win at all cost progam, and this has cost them.

No, Corbin is no longer the jugernaught that used to rule Southeastern and Eastern Kentucky with power and speed, but now they are just another pretender, with flashes from time to time.

Bell Co---49

Corbin---13

The letter to the editor has nothing to do with the the hounds so called falling. It came from a man who was a little mixed up and not from around here to know what Corbin football is. And obviously knows nothing about the game at all. 8 plays????? this isn't pee-wee.

And PS unless you are around the program you need not make comments about what being a REDHOUND is or unless you have ever been one. That makes you look as senseless as the man who wrote the article.

I'll admit that the these days, the name REDHOUND doesn't strike fear into the eyes of opponents. Sure they will always respect the tradition but any person can see that the Pride and Tradition is not near as strong. I think we have fine coaches and fine players so I won't point fingers at any individuals. There is always going to be a decision here or there that the coaches may miss or an assignment that the players may blow but it doesn't happen enough to cause a drop off.

Honestly, me and a buddy went and ate lunch yesterday and had this conversation. Is it the sissyfication of todays society that may cause players not to work as hard as they are used to because they are worried too much about playing playstation afterwards? Is it complication of the system? Is it the youth and inexperience? Is it that other teams have developed their programs, defenses, offenses, ect? Could it be that a certain person has moved about 3 states south? All of those questions have been brought up and it's impossible to answer it.

I personally think that it's a little mixture of everything but with a huge addition of lack of fan support. Don't get me wrong, Corbin has got some of the most supportive fans but a big portion of them don't seem to sit on their hands instead of being rabid like back in the day. It's like Kentucky basketball at Rupp arena. You hear all of this nonsense about the crazy atmosphere and intimidation. Hogwash, there are probably 5 gyms in the SEC more intimidating. Tradition will only intimidate you so far. The banners (title years on the scoreboard in Corbin's case) get peoples attention but it doesn't shake them up. The fans need to be packed in there and raising 3 types of you know what. I personally have no voice on Saturday mornings, everyone else needs to be in the same shape. A lot of the fans may be bored because of the lack of district competion therefore feel the need to not have to cheer. Hopefully getting out of that pathetic garbage district will change some things up.

I've been to every game this year and while I'm not happy with the 0-3 start, they at least never quit in those games. The only knock that I have against the product out on the field is that they seem to be soft. They have the talent and strength but seem to lack the attitude. Football shouldn't be about patting people on the butt and shaking hands. That's for after the game. I'm not saying play dirty and cheap shot but you got to be aggressive and mean. When you play, you play each play to make the guy across from you want to quit. I personally was unfortunately was deprived of that opportunity back in the day for reasons beyond my control. True Redhound, you know what I'm talking about that it takes... think the flyin shoe in Louisville haha. Toughness takes you a long way.

Very Well put......you seem to see through very clear glasses.

Every thing I stated I will stand by, You don't have to have played for Corbin to see how things used to be and why other programs tried to imitate them, often failing. The swagger Corbin used to have was REAL, not fake bravodo that so many other teams along with Corbin exhibit today.

The letter to the editor has nothing to do with the the hounds so called falling. It came from a man who was a little mixed up and not from around here to know what Corbin football is. And obviously knows nothing about the game at all. 8 plays????? this isn't pee-wee.

You misunderstand, I hate to see what the Corbin football program has become. Even the people disliked Corbin had to respect what they did. I think that the Time Tribune posting "garbage" like that was bad. Another sign, do you thing the Knoxville News Sentenialwould publish rubish like that about the Vols? Of course not, but that is the level of support that Corbin used have but no longer has.

Thats what i am saying, the people doing it haven't a clue of what it means to be a redhound and how passionate the better part of the community is about it. Its more than a thing to do on friday night, more than somthing to talk about on here, and more than to let some idiot parents thoughts of frustration change any opinions. It is a way of life for most people here. Its not that the program is falling it is that the people moving in here stick their nose where they have no clue what is going on.
