Holmes was 9 for 29 from the free throw line??? That is just simply embarrassing especially for a varsity team.

Appears neither team shot the ball real well. Commodore seems to be making a leap his Junior year.

Fun game to watch, one of the better more enthusiastic crowds I have saw at a game in a while, reminded me of the Holmes,Newport games back in the 70s. I would say Coach L will have them at the line Monday. A game of runs, at the end of the third quarter it looked like a Holmes rout in process, Newport came out early in the fourth with pressure and back to back three's. Coach Snapp is worth the price of admission, I really enjoy him working the sidelines for his players. Both teams should have an nice season, good luck to both.

I liked what I saw from Holmes tonight.

 

A few mental lapses at the end and missed free throws that allowed Newport to make it a game, but overall they get after it at both ends and are constantly in attack mode. Commodore and Hollis are both really good in transition and are aggressive at both ends of the floor. Miller gives the Bulldogs a steady pg who can score when needed and Greene is really good at grabbing a rebound and going with it to push the tempo. He is also much more active in the paint than last year.

 

Depth is an issue with them but I think they have a talented team 1-4, other than not being great shooters. To their credit, they know what they are good at and constantly look to score going to the rim for high percentage shots or drawing contact. Saxson and Sterling rebound well and do what they're asked. Would like to see more of Gaither before I pass judgement on him.

 

As far as Newport goes, they are even younger than Holmes, with 3 sophomores starting (Harding, McGuire, Miller) and a junior (Burries). The three sophomores more than held their own tonight other than getting sped up at times, which led to easy points for Holmes in transition. They play way beyond their years as Miller was attacking all night and McGuire wasn't afraid to let it fly from outside. Harding also really battled inside with Greene, Saxson, and Sterling.

 

Both teams will be fun to watch not only this year, but next year as well.
