New Heroin Bill

I'd be curious to see the overlap of suspected DWI and driving on a suspended license.

That's right Schickel, take their license away. That'll stop them! :thumb:

@capt278 can I get your take ? It seems current DWI laws cover Herion does it not. If it doesn't , isn't a 3 month suspension really light ?

nothing wrong with trying but this will not stop addicts from driving. If they choose to drive they won't care if they have a license or not. Just a big PR move that does nothing to solve the problem.

That's my question. What does this law do that isn't already on the books. Is something going completely over my head ? DWI laws already give a harsher penalty.

As to my knowledge, heroin is covered under current DUI laws.

My understanding as to the length of time the license is suspended is per statute. First time is 120 days. Subsequent violations in a 10 year period, the suspension gets more time.

We had 3 deaths and one still on life support due to heroin OD's this past weekend in my small community. It's throughout KY.

That's why this bill is confusing me. Of it's already covered how is this going to help you in LE enforce anything new.

It's seems more of a feel good type bill to me. Really doesn't address the real problem.

To me, there is a lot of legislature like this enacted. Doesn't really accomplish anything but the public feels good about it and the politicians can say, "Look, we passed a law concerning heroin abuse", when they actually did nothing.

Politics as usual. Rarely do they ever solve a problem.
